I’m not from Texas but have a lot of family there. The problem with Texas is that it has one of the lowest voter turnout in the country. In fact there are more democrats in Texas than republicans, but no one votes because they don’t want to or can’t because it hard to vote with all the barriers. So Matt did have a point that if Beto can’t win, then it’s unlikely that Jasmine has an upset, but Jasmine still has to win the primary, and based on what I heard, Talarico has a stronger presence with the Latino vote which could push him over the edge in the primary, but I also doubt either one of them would beat the republican candidate. That said it was wild to say not to donate money in a state he is not voting in, but one would argue we have every right to criticize potential Senators since they affect all of us with their congressional votes. I don’t think we need to cancel them over the comment though. Maybe I’m biased because I’m a listener to their pod 🤷🏽‍♂️

As a Democrat in Texas, and someone who is an active voter and has hope to find a representative that you know have our best interest. When I heard comments like someone like Matt & bowan it was was very disappointing. They’re are haphazardly weighing in on important issues that they do not have stakes in. They’re NOTeven from the state to be characterizing and discouraging our political figures it’s kinda like why talk if youre ignorant views don’t help. Because even now the fact that she has to fundraise and promote this heavily is because of the gerrymandering of her district that Texas Republicans have gone out of their way to have block people like representative Jasmine Crockett form ever getting a Democratic Senate seat. They should know better should recognize the consequences of the words as this cis white person talk about an ally.

I have a lot to say about this and not enough time, but lemme just get a few things out cuz I’ve been so frustrated by these conversations. First and foremost the notion that you can’t comment on an election in another state because you don’t live there or can’t vote in that election is ridiculous. Any election that is sending a national senator to congress has implications on anyone living in the country because they are caucusing, voting on bills, and participating in a political process that affects ALL of us. It’s ALL of our business. I (controversially I guess) agree with them and was shocked that it’s turned into what it has. When I listened to the episode nothing at all stood out to me as outrageous or unbecoming or racist. Black people can be criticized. Especially when they are politicians and public figures being paid by our tax dollars. And as a Black person I’m actually lowkey offended that people are structuring the argument in this way because you’re reducing JC to her Blackness instead of her politics. And yes I can obviously see how a word like defined can seem coded, but he broke down exactly what he meant by that and used the same word in the same conversation about Gavin Newsome who he (and I) have the same issue with. They ARE too defined. They are extremely well known polarizing figures and because of that will have a hard time winning over many people who have already made up their minds about them. It is also MUCH easier for republicans to campaign against them because of how, yes, defined they are. Versus a relative unknown rising star who like Mamdani will have an easier time evading flagrant attacks from the opposition because they don’t have a long policy record or controversies. Was Mamdani attacked yes. But nothing stuck because it was all bullshit. They could not find anything legitimate to criticize because he was a relatively unknown rising star who had excellent people first policies. And btw Matt didn’t say he would vote for Talarico or liked him better, he simply said he was interested in learning more about him (to see if he was better mounted for a win in the general election). Jasmine Crockett is a moderate corporate democrat who has accepted enormous amounts of money from the crypto industry who she is not in favor of regulating. The same donors who donated to Trump’s inauguration fund. She’s wildly pro Israel. And her entire campaign (like Gavin’s social media presence) has been all about her and her stardom in the party vs the people she should be fighting for. So many politicians wanna be stars when it needs to be about the PEOPLE. The merch she sold with the bad built body whatever on it. The initial senate ads she released that said nothing about making people’s everyday lives better and only focused on her rivalry with trump. Like baby this is not twitter stan wars this is real fucking life. Her campaign needs serious re-tooling. It’s a campaign that may win her the primary when it’s only democrats voting, but it will not work in the general election. I appreciate her always keeping it a buck and reminding everyone that everything happening in the current administration is not and never will be normal. But Trump is bad and I’m good is not enough. Like what are we doing here?? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Edit: realizing just how much I fuck with Bob, Monet, this podcast and this Patreon community cuz even tho I’m sure there will be ppl who disagree this was the only place I actually felt like speaking on this after seeing all the discourse on so many platforms.

I currently live in Houston Texas and I am so tired of living around ppl that consistently vote against their best interests. To the point that we are going to try to move to Delaware this summer. I just can't do this anymore. I have been an active voter since 1998 and not once have I voted for the senator that has won. But what is my alternative, not voting? That has never sat right with me. If I live in Texas when it is time to vote, Jasmine Crockett will get my vote.

I lived in Texas when Beto ran, with the gerrymandering and redistricting happening currently, her chances are greatly diminished compared to his run; especially given her policies are so widely known. Telling people not to vote is crazy, but saying “not my gay dollars” in THIS economy is not.

I’m from Texas but live in Australia. As a U.S. citizen, I can still vote in federal elections. For Senate, I voted for Beto and most recently, for Colin Allred. I truly thought Allred had a chance to beat Ted Cruz in 2024. Sadly, I was wrong. But that doesn’t mean it’s a “waste” to support a candidate that will legitimately challenge these established politicians like Cruz and Cornyn

I think Talarico is more progressive than Jasmine, he opposes sending money to the genocide. Jasmine, who besides having great comebacks to MAGA, has been pretty center in her policies and right-leaning when it comes to Israel. She's not in the progressive caucus. tx resident born n raised! unfortunately a lot of dems r funded/backed by aipac (israel) and crockett happens to be one of them. she has shown support to israel on multiple occasions. she gives me one of those politicians who get a positive rep. mainly bc she goes viral every now and again. her and talarico have semi similar views but the issue is she’s funded by israel + talarico is more adamant abt cracking down on corrupt tx politics. talarico is a former teacher and is the son of a working single mom. his policies around public education, healthcare, cost of living, passing of common sense g*n laws, prioritizing mental health/youth programs/substance abuse versus over policing, etc. rlly resonated with me. he’s also done a vid for jubilee which i liked (even tho im not a fan of jubilee), check it out! all of his backstory/policies can be found on jamestalarico.com. im a lil untrusting of texas politicians but im leaning towards talarico. anyone but cornyn and abbot pls😭but hopefully talarico!
