Went through and read every comment on this recent no contact episode. A lot of us have sooo many similar stories and situations with parents. Thank you all for sharing.

Man, I had to cut my twin sister off for 18 long ass months because she was out there on those streets. We are extremely close, so it felt like I was missing half of my heart. This was during the pandemic so it was the worst times of my life. Happy to say she is sober now and we talk everyday...so those times seem like a bad dream now, but man back then it was it painful asf.

I cut my dad out of my life 12 years ago because of that shit. It's scary scary stuff

I’m late to the party but I’m kind of soft launching going no contact with pretty much my entire dad’s side of the family. A lot of them are very Baptist midwestern republican kind of folk. There’s a lot of military, divorce, and chainsmoking on that side which if you’re familiar with any of that you know it causes a lot more turmoil. Anyways I came out in 2018 but they didn’t know until 2019 from a facebook post and people were upset because I didn’t tell anyone of them personally. I don’t really use facebook that much but I am very aware of the digital footprint my paternal relatives have and it just makes me really nauseous. They’re the kind of people I wouldn’t be shocked to hear they were at Jan 6 if they were. It really has been hurting me a lot because there’s a void in my soul that needs to be filled by that side of the family but they cause me so much pain just from their beliefs, and now especially with the targeted attack on queer people from right wingers I just feel so much more hurt because I know they believe and feed into it even though they say they love me.

I've had chronic pain for 4 years & I recently had a huge falling out with two childhood best friends (10+ years), and I blocked both of them on all accounts. In these past two weeks of not speaking, I have literally felt the chronic pain improve - less neuropathy. No contact can sometimes be a necessary boundary to improve our own health. I had no idea those relationships were affecting me like that, and I'm now going to practice more awareness as to how some relationships & friendships literally make me more sick.
