Forever Young (The Past, Surreal) (Patreon)

Remember Phoenix? I ended up making 4 different versions of this song between the years of 2019 and now! 

I ended up recording a new guitar part for the 2nd verse and chorus a few days ago and feel like it fits the vision I had for the track a little bit better!

I'll be releasing this and the 2020 "Forever Young (Live Forever)" version of this song this Friday! Here's a sneak peak!

Album 3 is a concept album about what growing up in a continuously accelerating digital society is like. 

Songs like Forever Young and CRT are about early net culture, 00s rave culture, seeing time move too quickly and looking to the past (sometimes begrudgingly) for answers.

"Forever Young" is an interpolation of this Happy Hardcore remix of an Alphaville track by the same name (confusing huh?)

Bootlegs and Happy Hardcore remixes are ultimately how I formed my tastes when I was 9 on the old internet, in a lot of ways electronic remixes and bootlegs are like the folk music of the web– Echoed across the digital static and often lost in the flow of information, copyright laws or just shifting mediums 

(huge bummer that large portion of my musical library isn't even available to be streamed on Spotify because of the legal grey area that many of these songs exist in because of sampling law).

Succinctly I'd say that album 3 is about preserving and revisiting the early net culture and art that made me, me!  Nostalgia is intrinsically a huge part of cultural movements now (whether it be 80s, 90s or as of recent, 00s nostalgia). We all want to echo the times and moments we hold dear to us, catch a sliver of novel magic again.  

It's a rose tinted lens, but one that we can peer into to learn more about ourselves and what we might have forgotten along the way in this continuously accelerating world. With album 3, I want to echo a past that is largely untold and becoming more lost with every day. Share with you my digital breadcrumbs of art that I find beautiful at my core!
