Once freed up, Jason doesn’t wait around for someone else to decide they want to talk to him. “Come on girls, time to blow this pop stand!”

Rosha looks up from where she is cuddled up with Courtney, eyebrow raised. “Girls?”

Jason tosses his pack over his shoulder. “Women, ladies, gal pals, whatever. I want out of here for multiple reasons and there is no time to wait.”

Courtney stands up and stretches, “As much as I’d love to relax a bit more, if demons are involved, I agree we need to move.”

Jason, “I don’t think there will be an actual demon outbreak.”

Courtney shakes her head, “Don’t care. Demons and those who deal with them are dangerous in a way that even devils and daemons aren’t. Where should we go?”

Rosha sighs, “I wish I could just declare we’re going back to the Deep Wilds.”

Jason nods, “That would be nice.”

Courtney glances towards the city, “Yeah, but clearly we haven’t been out long enough.”

Rosha, “Blarg, we need another training montage like when I was training with Peter.”

Jason sighs, “I would love to hide away in an inn and train some. Well, admittedly, I probably need time going out and fighting stuff. But you two definitely need some time to let the last few months of active fighting to settle. Time to correct what might have gone wrong. Time in general.”

Rosha grabs her pack, “But none of us believe the System will let us?”

Jason and Courtney both nod.

Rosha stands up and slaps her fist into her palm, “Well! I say we do it, anyway. Jason can be the one handling all the nonsense. If we go to a bigger city, most of the problems should be social instead of combat-based. We rent a small adventurer's bungalow. Jason mans the front of the house, while the two of us stay in the back training.”

Jason sighs, “That could work? Though I personally would like to also spend some time focusing on cultivation. Both in and out. Particularly, in NeoRealm I want to up my physical work so my stats star soon.

“Actually, what level are the two of you? I’m getting close right now. Level 43 despite not fighting all that much. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t have managed it out in the Deep Wilds. Stuff simply attacked too often. Not even actual danger, but every single drop of experience adds up over time.”

The other two sigh and Rosha speaks up, “How are you still at a higher level? I’m only level 40! The two of us were out in the Deep Wilds, fighting for our lives over the year.”

Jason raises an eyebrow, “Fighting for your lives? Or were you mostly wandering around looking for a fight?”

Rosha coughs, “Ah, well, there were some tough fights?” In the background Courtney chuckles as she gathers the last to the camp supplies.

Jason shakes his head, “You didn’t die Once! With how random it can get out there, the only way for you to have not died is to have played it safe. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. Despite that, you still managed to hit 40. Some people take irl years to manage it. Admittedly, death penalties eat a bunch of them alive and the bottleneck, especially this early on, tends to be the actual limiter.”

Courtney, “Just to note, since we do seem to be getting closer. Higher levels tend to stagnate below a bottleneck because of experience decay. You won’t lose levels, but if you aren’t active, experience towards the next level can drain away.”

Jason waves that off, “For players that won’t matter. If we want to level up, the thing that will stop us is bottlenecks. Or well, I guess the production players might hit that problem if they don’t have a chance to work with excellent materials. Though for them, their skill level matters more. So a lower raw level won’t bother them if they aren’t trying to work with super tough mats.”

Courtney, “I was just bringing it up. Though it might actually be useful for you. When we head back into the Deep Wilds, those small encounters adding up won’t be as much of a problem.”

Rosha looks worried as the trio begin to walk down the road, “Our next trip in will be for even longer. Will that cause a worse problem for us?”

Courtney shakes her head, “It should be fine. Fifty to a hundred is seen as the consolidation levels. Up to now, serious players still see as a bit of a tutorial. You just have to look at the bottleneck quests to see why. Beat a monster, a boss, a dungeon or reach apprentice in a production skill, and now finally to hit 50 you need to complete a System quest?

“That’s tutorial stuff. Some who have gotten to 100 even try to say the first 100 levels are tutorial because 75 is a raid dungeon and 100 a special quest. Those people are seen as idiots, especially for the special quest. While some people breeze through it, others have quests that are seen as literally impossible for them to complete.”

Jason, “How literally?”

Courtney shrugs, “Generally it is challenges that involve post-100 content. Whether that means monsters or materials.”

Jason, “So not literally at all?”

Courtney, “I would judge it on a case-by-case basis. There is an occasional quest that we do not know the details of and under oath at a Church to Truth, they’ve sworn they are not allowed to share their quest details. Also, some quests that would be considered ‘impossible’ by others are completed as if it was a walk in the park.

“Generally, this involves someone like Rosha leaning on their family to get the particular crafting material or having a family elder find and separate out the target monster. As while they can’t help too much, no reducing the monster to one health and chaining it down, they can give them the best situation and all the tries they could ever want. After all, if the quest only requires them to successfully forge a weapon with a certain metal, it doesn’t matter if they tried once or a thousand times.”
