i think what may have been the turning point for coach to move forward with confidence was when he realised that ippo was really willing to look back on his signature and break it down himself. theres a moment where coach says after his ippo finds out that he 'didn't have the heart' to tell ippo that his very signature move was the problem, since it was ippo's source of confidence at that point. but after seeing that ippo was piecing that together himslef and willing to rehaul it, he firmly decided to lead him.

one thing I’ve noticed about ippo now is just how much the coach himself develops alongside the boxers. He’s not always correct- there are times when he’s wrong and times when he’s right but uncertain (like when takamura validates his coaching in the world title fight). As a character though, he grows.

Unrelated sorry if this wasn't the place for it but Ace of Diamond season 4 just got announced for 2026! Already excited for your reactions lol

Yeah i actually find that refreshing. Just like athletes continue to train and learn to improve the chief also continues to improve. I've always been a firm believer that if a coach or trainer think they know everything then its best to avoid them because there's always room for growth and in my opinion they've stopped seeking knowledge therefore stopped growing.

I’m aware and I’m excited as well!

the coach just doesn't want ippo to be one dimensional boxer. he realized that ippo stopped fighting on a modern way (the coached talked about using jab for ex same as takamura's left jab) were he relies too much on one move.

WHAAAAT I DIDN'T KNOW THAT OMG

If im not mistaken, ippo developed dempsey roll all by himself in the beginning because the coach doesn't want to spoon feed him and then train to refine it. I think the coach just wanted to see that ego and that drive from ippo first. great season! looking forward for season 3 lax! thanks!
