I've spent most of 2021 trying to overcome this feeling of...guilt. Guilt for not drawing enough, not posting enough, of disappointing the people that follow me. I know that a lot of it is my own insecurities, but it has gotten to a point where I barely draw at all.

I know this post probably sounds familiar, I've said the same things before, but I've also been struggling with it for years and it's just finally gotten to the point where I can't ignore it anymore. I don't want this post to be depressing though, I actually want it to be inspiring. I need to change because what I'm doing now clearly isn't working.

So that means figuring out where to go from here. What do I love about art? I love using it to create characters. I love 3D and 2D together. I love expressive brushwork and colors. I love finding inspiration in my favorite artists, but I have to learn to stop envying them and embrace my own style instead. I have compared myself to other artists for too long and it's unhealthy.

Knowing all of that, I think I can move past this and be stronger for it. if I can stop feeling guilty for the days I don't draw and be proud of the days I do, then it's a step in the right direction.

(These were a bunch of sketches I had lying around that I took with my phone. Graphite on newsprint.)

It's not easy, but you'll just have to keep on trying :) I struggle a lot myself so I can really relate! I like seeing your drawings and sketches in here!

Thank you so much! I hope things look up for you soon. 🙏

I found you from your poses and follow you because of your art. What stood out to me is the level of thought you seem to put into your creations. I honestly relate because I feel like when I want to draw something I can only think of all the reasons why I am lacking in technique or understanding and why it won’t turn out. Simple sketches and studies take me months because I put a lot of pressure on myself. I start thinking “why even bother if I’m gonna hate it” this post really spoke to me because I think you are asking the right questions, questions I should ask to. My sincerest hope is that creating becomes as enjoyable for you as it is to take in what you come up with. Thanks again for the update and your processes/sketches I love seeing the messy stuff too!

Thank you so much for this comment! I think all we can do is take it one step at a time, and be patient (which is not a strong suit of mine lol) Learn to be proud of the little things, and remember what compelled us to draw in the first place. Finding that passion again after you lose it is really, really hard though, but just know that I'm rooting for you!
