One thing the boys keep saying but doesn't ring true for MHA imo, is, this a good vs evil fight. Deku is not trying to find the "good" in Shigaraki, it's more like he's trying to reach out for the humanity in him, his human heart. He wants to understand what led him down this path. It may be too late, maybe not but it is worth trying to reach out as far as Deku is concerned. He learned that society isn't black or white, it's gray and heroes should act accordingly. We saw this all play out with Ochako and Himiko Toga; it wasn't about defeating her but understanding her. In the end, Ochako saved Toga Himiko's heart. In return, Himiko chose to save Ochako. She could have stabbed her, ran away, surrendered and went to jail or reformed herself. But what was right for Himiko Toga was to return that kindness and understanding Ochako gave her, tenfold and then some. It could go any way with Shigaraki.
