I'm really glad you liked this. This is one of the earliest anime I saw when it was a new thing in English about 2 or 3 months after the dub was available here. It's one of several anime movies/OVAs that I have a real fondness for even to this day. In fact I might make a list of a few others you could watch that are also from that period. Her name is Gally in Japan and some other places and Alita in the US and UK I think. The events of the OVA and the live action movie are a very compressed/condensed and edited down version of the first two volumes of the manga story that gives the setup then touches on certain major events, but both chose some things the other didn't. Like Gally getting her initial body is in the live-action but the OVA skipped to her having her berserker body without the backstory of how she got it etc. I think both only covers events from the first... 4-6 chapters or something so it is a relatively small segment of the plot especially as it has a lot of it cut out too. Both are pretty abridged though the live-action movie seemed to cover more to up the runtime of it I think like adding in the motorball stuff etc. The manga is still going today but had a few breaks over the years but is in it as the first part ran for 5 years then went silent for almost 10 years then came back with its second part and is now in the third currently. It makes me consider going back and re-reading part 1 now and reading the rest I never got around to actually. Let me know if you'd like recommendations for some other classics from this era of anime that I think are cool. I have most of them on my PC anyway so I can just add them to G drive.

It would actually be really cool to watch those recommendations. I'd gladly add them to my movie reaction list - whenever you feel like uploading them:)
