Nice! Turn Back the Pendulum is arguably one of the best flashback arcs in shonen anime

Oh we are at this flashback arc already? I almost forgot. This mini arc is really good...much needed backstory for some characters! We also got the first mention of squad zero, the royal task force...wish I could say more on this...but no spoilers 🤐 Also another sort of important fact was mentioned: only 4 captains had held on their position for 100+ year in the flashback (in the present time it would be 200+ years) - Yamamoto, Kyoraku, Ukitake and Unohana. Gives you a sense of who is more senior even within the captains.

Wait, they mention squad zero? I haven't watched Bleach in a really long time. I don't remember that all😅

I didn't think it was too surprising that Shinji was once a Captain. We knew that the Vizards used to be Shinigami. And Shinji is REALLY strong. We know the Espada are easily Captain Level if not stronger. When Grimmjow came to the living world the second time, Ichigo fought him with Hollow Mask AND Bankai and still lost as soon as his Hollow Mask broke. Shinji then fought off Grimmjow without even releasing his Zanpakuto. To compare that to an actual Captain: Hitsugaya needed his Bankai to just fight against the "fake Number 6" that was one-shot by Grimmjow. Given how Shinji's strength has been portrayed, it would have almost been weird for him to not be a captain as a Shinigami. Kensei, Rose and Love being captains was quite the surprise, though. We hadn't seen anything from them yet that would have indicated that they were anywhere close to captain level in strength.
