Yep, so essentially, the Hiruken Emperor started off as a stillborn royalty, but ended up as a collective conscious being that gathers everyone's "sadness". That's how Akiyuki connected with him during the battle. Still, to think that he'd give up his identity after going through the entire series trying to maintain it. Sannovah lived for too long and stopped caring about life on earth, that's why she was fine with souls being purified when they die a certain way (similar to a lot of religions out there tbh). Nakiami managing to convince Sannovah to value life as much as souls was definitely the turning point for this world. So we have the 2 "prophets" sacrificing themselves for the greater good.
