Finally back to where it all began! Between this and The Last later I think my night sitting in front of PC working will be sorted. Thank ya kindly miss! I think this version I got is a longer cut of the film too so I think there is some stuff in it even I haven't seen before. I think if they had left Jacks character as he was for the series it would never have been a success. Richard only took the gig on SG1 on the condition that his character could have a more dry/sarcastic way about him than Kurt's portrayal in the movie. The actors for Skarra and Kasuf are the lone ones to return for SG1. I thought Sha're was too for a moment but no. So yeah it is him. :) The tissue box gag from SG1 makes sense now too after this heh.

Just finished this one and I think they kind of just retconned the hell out of it regarding the Goa'uld once the series came along. I think everyone just kind of accepted it and pretended this didn't happen in the way it was presented in the movie.

The only way there is racism in this film is if you bring it there yourself as a viewer. The "white" people didn't save the Abydonians, they saved themselves. They made the choice to rebel after learning the truth, and it was only because of them that Ra fled. Sure, the "white" people had more education in certain areas, but it didn't help them much against Ra. In the end it was as much the Abydonians courage as it was the "white" people that won the day. In fact, I think that not acknowledging that fact is just as racist and condescending as thinking that it was just because of the "white" people saving the poor "primitives". Sorry to go on a rant, but viewing everything through the lense of "race" is detrimental to society. The movie could have been made with, say modern Egyptians, going through the Stargate and it would have been no different. They would have had more knowledge in certain areas, but at the end of the day relied on the Abydonians to have an uprising to be able to succeed. Or the people going through the gate could have been Nigerian or Japanese. It would make no difference to the story. I thought that the film treated the Abydonians very respectfully. They were not portrayed as stupid, cowardly, or incapable. On the contrary, once they had a little more information to work with, they proved intelligent, courageous, and competent.
