just so you guys know, after Kaido says “What’s the matter? You’re getting weaker!” he knocks Luffy off the roof. Everything after is just Kaido hallucinating that Luffy is still up there fighting. That’s why it seems like Luffy just disappears and also why he wasn’t getting sent by attacks that had sent him before.

Thanks for the shout out on such a good episode 💖 that small scene between Zoro and Sanji is a favorite. There's something nice about just the two of them talking in a quite setting, since we don't really get it often (the last I can think of is in Cocoyashi after Arlong was gone and Sanji and Zoro are sitting/talking in the alleyway during the banquet). This scene felt genuine with the characters and most importantly, human. The animation throughout was fantastic.

Is there any actual basis for this theory? because it makes literally 0 sense that kaido would hallucinate. Is that just what people say because they added so much that wasn't in the manga? I genuinely never understood where this thought came from.

there’s no tangible proof but some of the filler content adapted by Toei is weird like luffy laying on the ground getting slammed over and over it feels like its not even really happening

one of the animators (Henry Thurlow) who worked on the episode outright confirmed this. It’s implied when Luffy gets up smiling with no blood on him whatsoever despite taking multiple shots on the ground that left him leaking.

I cant find any comments from Henry Thrulow on this episode regarding that. And the no blood after Luffy stands up could easily just be another case of censorship, i mean how many times in this show does someone get hit- blood- then no blood in the next frame. All the time.

Yeah, Luffy is a monster 😂 His growth-rate is insane. Only other character I can think of that comes close is Koby.. and he was personally trained by Garp. The Monkey family is just built different

It completely makes sense why he would hallucinate.. he believes Luffy is on the level that matches even the Pirate King so I’m sure in the back of Kaido’s mind is “could this kid really beat me, or at least box with me”.. that fighting sequence is literally Kaido’s dream fight, him and Luffy just trading blows left and right, but as we can see in the last couple episodes Luffy cant trade like that just yet
