King Tut

NoxKing

A MASTERPIECE! FIRE REACTION AS ALWAYS

GemIcarus

nobody doing it like Bartholomew Kuma, backstory ending had me tearing up the whole time but Vegapunk saying his death would trouble those who loved him got me good sick discussion too, wild getting to recontextualize every single meeting with him (especially Sabaody, sheesh, had to gatekeep and set Luffy up out of kindness lmao) looking forward to the next reaction!!

Its the fact that his life kept getting worse and worse without a good ending…

I wasn't sure how this moment was going to be animated, and it really blew me away 🥺 I enjoyed seeing all these iconic interactions from Kuma's perspective. It really gives a new outlook to the overall story up to this point. And how his whole life was summed up at the end before he loses it all 🤌🏻

Greatest Egghead episode with the most unbelievably emotional sequence.. there's just no words, can't think of any anime sequences that reach this melancholic beauty. One Piece is the best story mankind has made. Thank you Oda, thank you director Koyama, thank you Toei.

Karheembamboo

I get you, this episode was definitely different.

Monkey D. Momo

2 of my top 3 in One Piece are dudes from Backstorys. I just wish Kuma was saved when he was a kid.

Seeing Kuma's life fade away before his own eyes. Bonney, a 12 year old, experiencing her father's life, choices and suffering. Vegapunk in tears knowing he's about to turn this kind man into a soulless machine. The whole sequence of Kuma's backstory and the visuals and OST accompanying it. 10/10 episode. Kuma doesn't deserve this, I hope he gets saved in some way and him and Bonney can reunite. Happy 10th Birthday. That got me man.

Preet

Pure cinema. That was beautiful, they knocked it out of the park.

IzzyTheWitch

Had to pause it and watched it in my room to cry with ya'll 😭

Absolutely fucking devastating. I was struggling until the end, when they showed Vegapunk weeping with the musical swell. That broke me Considering the copious amounts of trauma and suffering in one piece, it speaks volumes that a lot of people are saying this is the saddest chapter in the story. Breathtakingly beautiful stylized final sequence, and a lifetime which will re-contextualize the entire story to date Something I don’t see anybody talking about is how brutally punishing this was for Vegapunk. Not only did he have to concede his morals and kill his best friend, he then had to live with watching his principles in turn be perverted by turning this pacifist into a war machine, and THEN see his greatest regret every day, the visage of his murdered friend literally policing his laboratory. It’s interesting you read Saturn’s actions as petty, that wasn’t how I took them myself. To me it seemed like indifference. He was just doing what he felt could help them expand and retain their power structure further, with a cold distance from pathos and humanity which included the continued oppression of the Buccaneers. As he says, he’s a scientist, too. He seems to be portrayed as the black mirror reflecting Vegapunk’s more noble scientific pursuits, in a similar capacity to how Cesar is, albeit somewhat more extreme. His actions are so excessively cruel to everyone involved, including Vegapunk, that one has to wonder if the good doctor’s sedition couldn’t have been staved off had Saturn just been willing to compromise, or not been so unmoved by their suffering at all. We saw in York that the thought of betrayal and the motivation to do it already existed in Vegapunk, too Your theory that Kuma can come back is a hopeful one, Heat. Oda hasn’t been pulling punches now that we’re in the endgame. Not with Pedro, and not with Yasuie. People also frequently die in flashbacks in one piece. But some of Kuma’s life was framed during some pre-skip events we lived through, so it’s hard to say if his death falls within flashback territory or not. We’ve also heard the smartest man in the world say there’s no way, and call his own actions murder. But there are a lot of themes of science vs religion in modern one piece, between the deific dialogue and the mythological fruits, and Vegapunk’s inventions and talk of bloodline elements, and it isn’t as though we haven’t seen Luffy enact miracles before… I mean, he is a god after all. Could be something happens that Vegapunk can’t explain or predict, I suppose Though to be honest, even if it does, I don’t think that will make his life any less tragic or agonizing. This one fucking hurts, man

NoxKing

That's fuckin tuff but I respect the hell out of it lmao

TheHugHunter

Don't know if ya'll caught it but right before Bonny does Age Skewer when she jumps up she's doing the Nika pose for a split second in that sun like her father taught her before bringing the beat down on the Navy.

Elijah W.

I love one piece

John

Heaven and hells greatest soldiers quaking over this kuma backstory

Mardii

I'm just thinking maybe it was Dragons Observation that made him pulled up for Luffy at Rougue town. He probably didnt pull up at Marine Ford because he didn't forsaw Luffy being killed.
