Kubo said himself he felt like he didn't do his best when it came to writing bleach. Thats why he spent the next 11 years cooking up thousand year blood war. There isn't a single underwhelming moment in thousand year blood war and im hyped for yall to see that masterpiece!!!

I think they’ve explained this already but Hollows go through multiple stages starting with basic Hollows, then Gillians once they eat enough other hollows, then Adjuchas once those Gillians eat enough Hollows/Gillians, then Vasto Lordes if they reach the very top. Vasto Lordes are the Hollows like Stark or Barragan who look like Humans naturally (Barragan being a human skeleton), while the Arrancar are any Adjuchas/Vasto Lordes touched by the Hogyoku to develop Soul Reaper like powers. That’s why Ichigo’s final hollow form is called “Vasto Lorde Ichigo”

This fight shows just how strong Shunsui is, he was able to best the Primera in shikai alone. Just for comparison, the fanbase usually considers Ulquiorra in his 2nd resurrecion equal or slightly less than Starrk. So it may look to some that Starrk went down easy but just remember that if Shunsui used that Iro Oni Black on Barragan or R2 Ulquiorra, they also woulda been oneshotted. Cant think of many characters surviving a direct attack from Shunsui. Currently, theres still a clear gap between Shunsui and Kenpachi/Byakuya/Toshiro or even Ichigo for that matter.

Also I cant remember the source but I believe Starrk is the only natural born arrancar amongst the Espada. In other words, Aizen never used the hogyoku to give him power/make him an arrancar.

I think it was the fact he was number 1 is because lilinette gingerback and Stark was all ready vasto lorde before he met them which is the highest rank it was just underwhelming because of his motivation to not want to fight still think ulqiorra was stronger though as well as harribel

I really don't think this is written that poorly. Kenpachi & Yachiru paralleled each other with Nnoitra & Tesla and in the same way, Stark & Lilinette parallel Shunsui and Nanao, although it would be better if she was here. Stark embodies loneliness and was only motivated to fight as part of a group, since the group died before him (for the most part) he had no reason to fight other than to keep Lillinette alive, so after her sacrifice he had given up already. The entire theme of Bleach is also White versus Black (in the sense of Hollows vs. Soul Reapers and other symbolisms) so having Shunsui use a move where you have to announce the color you have the most of to do the most damage but then using black against a hollow which is traditionally white is kind of clever. I don't know I like it I know other people don't like this fight but I mean whatever. I think that although the Espada in Las Noches in the mission to rescue Orihime were supposed to rival the Captains in the Seireitei in the mission to rescue Rukia in the end Tite Kubo realized after Grimmjow and Ulquiorra were out of commission there were no compelling espadas left and that it'd be better if we just get to Aizen sooner.
