Pain was trying to save that man some face jiraiya stood no chance even if nerfed orochimaru was there it wouldn’t change the outcome pain was just too much it took sage mode and talk no jutsu to beat him

I mean Sage Mode Naruto did lose to Pain. It was really the Nine Tails who won that fight. But I do think two full powered Sannin with knowledge of Pain's secret can win. After all Pain is weakest to taijutsu and both Jiraiya and Orochimaru are elite at it

Orochimaru really saved the show

Jiraiya had three bodies down already, so if he'd known about at least the Naraka Path I think he very believably could have won through not allowing it to revive anyone. He didn't have any intel and was fighting in an unfamiliar landscape, so the odds were a lot more stacked against Jiraiya than people like to give him credit for. He still would've had trouble with the Deva Path since it's by far the strongest, but I don't think it was impossible for him to win either, especially considering he could reliably use ninjutsu again as the Preta Path was one of those that was taken out. That said he wouldn't have truly been able to locate and defeat Nagato unless he'd found out his secret earlier Honestly I don't know why ppl like to insert their own narratives or intentions into dialogue like this when it's a pretty straightforward statement. Naruto fans like to overcomplicate stuff sometimes lol. Also, to imply that Orochimaru was relative to Sage Mode Ma and Pa Jiraiya is a bit much when at full strength previously he was scrapping with Old Man Hiruzen and used Reanimations as a handicap. I mean, his Yamata no Jutsu is probably comparable but that's not going to be too useful in a fight against multiple Pains, especially if we drop him into the same setting and circumstances Jiraiya faced. Orochimaru only scales higher than Jiraiya at his peak (with Ma and Pa) after he comes back and gets a Zetsu body imo

normal Talk no Jutsu wasn't even enough he needed the power of Jiraiya's first book to cheat code the perfect talk no jutsu into existance.

I think full powered orochimaru can solo most of the show even pain but not jiraiya and yeah Naruto was really inexperienced with sage mode but still in that mode he is stronger just needed more time to train

Aurange jiraiya barely stood a chance against just 2 pains bruh if pain would’ve gone all out like he did against Naruto the fight would’ve been over in seconds and orochimaru is way stronger than jiraiya it’s not even close nerfed orochimaru was toying with 4 tails Naruto and only had to back out cuz he had cancer meanwhile jiraiya got a near death experience I like his character but he’s the weakest link out of the sannin and the weakest sage mode user in the show
