This week's winner is Rita! This became a very intensive piece as I really tried to show what I've improved on over the years. This one in particular was also a piece I originally wasn't super proud of and why it was originally thrown into a group post with my other nsfw pieces: here.

The new and improved piece is a whole different story. I am immensely proud of my growth and I feel re-energized to draw more.

That said I think it would also be good to look at what I said back in the day.

From the Old Post:

"2. Rita wearing her gardening hat and nothing else. Nah, she's got shoes on. But the idea was somewhat from my fanfic "The Son" but not from it specifically. Rita's kind of hard to make sexy. It may once again be cartoon head vs realistic body being too much but her face doesn't really suit being sexy. I think it's the hair honestly."

New Take:

I remember always really liking the idea of Rita but I'd agree with my past self that her design didn't translate well. My discomfort with her design is probably the exact reason I draw her so much in the first place. I want to make her look good and, as I've honed in my current design, I feel much better about her appeal. Adding the improvements in technique and color theory, I can comfortably say if I have to draw Rita I will make her pop.

The other thing that really saved the day was buried layers deep in my files was the original reference picture. And let me tell you, I took many shortcuts in 2020. One, she wasn't wearing boots. Yeah, big surprise to me too. Secondly, she wasn't holding a shovel, it was some "other" plastic implement. To be fair, I think the shovel is a fun idea and I kept it even in the more accurate piece. Combining the fun aspect with my ability to replicate the reference resulted in the piece coming out as well done as possible.

Now, if I ever do return to do this piece again I think the improvement will lie in drawing more details and better faces. I'm a little locked into how I currently draw cartoonish faces but once I finish in the game I should be able to change that. I don't think I'll ever go full realistic but I do think there will be a middle ground I will eventually reach. Everything else will be down to how much detail I'm willing to draw. For instance, I did try to add a pattern to her underwear but it kept coming out too messy. If I could add a lacey floral pattern this piece would have definitely bumped up a notch.

Well, it turned out this piece became a bit of a time drain and, while I'm happy I did it, it does mean I haven't put much work into the game today. So for the rest of the night I got to get back to coding.

Thank you so much for the support. Don't forget to vote in the category poll when you can. And I'll see you all soon.
