I Am Not Chamari

I just watched this for the first time last month! It’s kinda the greatest film of all time! Excited to rewatch it with you!

I have this personal connection to this movie, it is my grandpa's FAVORITE movie and he used to play it when it was raining. I was young and my mom tells it to me sometimes that I will dance and sing along and perform each time. My mom also likes to point out in this film that her dance teacher was in one of the big numbers.

I adore this movie so much. I had a huge crush on Donald O'Connor when I was 18 and fell down the rabbit hole and watched as many movies as I could with him. If I'm not mistaken the movie he did right after this was I Love Melvin which also starred Debbie. That has a lot of cute numbers including a dance routine on roller skates. Fun fact, he's in the only two movies Ethel Merman ever did, Call Me Madam and There's No Business Like Show Business. The former is one of my favs and the latter has Merlyn Monroe in it. I love these movies so much.

Alex Foster

I loved this movie as a kid. Watched it a thousand times. Still watch it once a year rpind christmas. if i didnt have weird feet and no rhythm id have loved to learn to learn to tap dance. I know some little facts about the making of this movie aswell. Gene Kelly had a high fever during the filming of the song singin In the rain. Debbie Reynolds wasn't a dancer before this and gene was very mean to her about it. Fred astaire found her crying and offered to teach her to dance. Gene later said he felt awful and was amazed she would even talk to him after. When they filmed good morning it took all day to film and debbie reynold's feet were bleeding by the end. I also had a long time crush on Donald o'connor. It rekindled everytime I watch it. 😂

Tessa Gattullo

The lady in the girl dress is Cyd Charisse who was a famous dancer at the time. My favorite fun fact about this film is that Debbie Reynolds was only 19 when they made the movie and it made her famous.

Alice Yacono

After this movie you should watch Meet me in St. Louis (1944). Main character played by Judy Garland and directed by Vincente Minnelli. One of my favorite musical movie ever.

i believe that the broadway melodi part had some very revolitionary stuff in it. i think the way tehy used the camera crane and stuff like that. the info behind it is pretty interresting. i loooove the musicals of this ara. like the king and i, easter parade, meet me in st. louis. harvey girls, in the good old sumertime and summer stock. judy garland and gene kelly is some of my top favs. it was great to see it again. i like this movie but it does hold some hard spots for me. one of my fav songs when im saying"scre... it!" is the song "i don't care" with judy garland in good old summertime.

Ray

If we are going to this decade of musicals, and I do love Singin in the Rain, I have got a great one. "Guys and Dolls" with the wonderful duo of Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons is one of my all time favorites right there!

Erin Perry

This was my first time watching this movie too - so good! But definitely a product of it's time. Since you do like those big dance numbers of the time, I think you should try Schmigadoon!, at least the first season. It is based on 1940s musicals, but looked at with a modern eye. You get the big musical numbers but with the knowledge of how it comes off in today's world.

Jake Sullivan

One of my favourite musicals ever

Last Hale

Robbie Kay killed this role he deserves an award I mean he’s evil but you just can’t hate him he’s so charismatic.

Katie Barmazel

Also want to call out the amazing Debbie Reynolds, her performance is amazing, but growing up my dad introduced her as Princess Leia’s mom. Carrie Fisher is her daughter, talented family.

Gene Kelly was not only one of the best dancers of all time he was one of the best choreographers right up there with Bob Fosse !

As far as representing how women were treated and represented in the past not only was this movie released in 1952 it is taking place in 1927 !
