Jenny

the harp player also played the chaperone in the lizzie maguire movie.

Yea. Lorelai has very valid reasons for her choices, but sometimes her reactions are over the top.

I'm glad you're liking it so far! I'm excited to continue seeing the famous people you do and do not recognize throughout the show. Also, odious means that something or someone is extremely unpleasant.

Can't wait to continue watching with you. Loving this and loving seeing your perspective on things. X

Annie Willow

She (Alex Borstein) was also originally cast as Sookie in the unaired pilot but they decided to go with Melissa McCarthy instead when she had to resign due to scheduling conflicts with MadTV.

Merry Christmas all! Watching with my “I smell snow” T-shirt from warm 68 F Tennessee. It got up to 72 yesterday and I just love having to turn my ac back on at Christmas time every year. 😂

My parents definitely raised the 4 of us differently. We are a “yours, mine, and ours” family so my older step (now half) brother is from my step (now adopted) dad’s first marriage and he is 6 1/2 years older than me and for most of childhood he was an every other weekend brother so he was raised as an only child and I was raised as an oldest. We had very different expectations put on us. His screw ups were excused because he was shuffled around but I was expected to be perfect and set a shining example for my younger siblings. My younger brother (only full blood sibling) was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 and that was used as his excuse for not doing his chores well and then my mom would just give his chores to me instead of correcting him. Didn’t matter that he was medicated or that I also had ADHD and autism (as well as my little sister) but no one bothered to consider us. My little sister just kind of floated by, she’s 6 1/2 years younger then me and with my young brother, they really didn’t have the energy for her but she was the one who ended up in the psych ward most of her senior year so that obviously wasn’t the best parenting choice. My parents were never good at dividing their attention and whoever was the squeakiest wheel got the attention and I always tried my best to never squeak, even if it was to my own detriment. My sister and I got our diagnoses a few years ago and my mom still doesn’t believe us and doesn’t take any responsibility for not considering that we could be neurodivergent, but then again both of them are neurodivergent but they would never entertain that thought.

I agree with everything you said! I also think that Lorelei and Rory are different in a lot of ways too. Where Loralei grew up that way and didn't want that life where she had to be proper, polite, and perfect. I think Lorelei also was very independent and wanted to make her own choices and not have everything handed to her because of money. I think where Rory didn't grow up that way and saw her mom struggle and work extremely hard to get where she is today, that might make Rory be more accepting of receiving help from others. I think Rory and Lorelei are different in ways that Lorelei was more rebellious because she had strict parents and Rory is more disciplined, and sometimes acts more like the mom occasionally, because she grew up with a mom who let her make her own choices and be more free. I'm sure it hurts Lorelei to know that Rory has a lot in common with her grandpa because they have stuff they both find interesting that they can talk about, and that Lorelei never really had any connection with either of her parent's growing up. I would be a little jealous too honestly. As kids you just want to please your parents, so it is hard to watch someone else be put on a pedestal and connect so well when you feel like you could never do anything right. I'm really enjoying watching this show with you!

Yes, would love to journey with you as you watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Emily is a great character, every time she talks to Lorelai is like throwing extra sharpened knives. But as a real person I would want to be as far as possible away from her. And the joke about the teachers in the peanuts is, the kids just hear "woa woa woa woa" when the adults are talking.

Odious = extremely unpleasant or repulsive. I REALLY understand Lorelai's feelings in this episode. Her tantrum about it was unnecessary but she's never really had the opportunity to learn to handle her feelings so I get it. My sister is quite a bit younger than me and got a very different version of my mom than I did. While my mom was controlling and manipulative with me (and still is, she hasn't softened much) she is very supportive and loving with my sister. I love my little sister more than anything in the world but at the same time it's really painful to watch her get to follow her dreams fully supported and loved while I'm still being scrutinized and made to feel like a failure. I'm in therapy and can handle my feelings without taking it out on my sister and her bra size though 🤣

Katy

Sooo happy you are watching! The journey is incredible!

Alicia

As someone who isn't close with my family, I relate to Lorelei so much as I try to have my son get to know them. I have an Emily who criticizes everything I do and it's a chilly environment when I take my kid to see them. Love love love this show.

Lucy

I love this show for the relationships we see in the Gilmore family especially. It's all shades of grey, and at times I'm not really liking Emily as she reminds me of my mum waaaaay too much, but then other times I really feel for her - same with Loreli and Rory/ Richard. So so glad to be watching this with you I feel so lucky xxx

Sarah Doty

I admire how quickly you've gotten to the heart of these characters and found their perspectives - for better or worse. Many people take much longer to start empathizing with characters like Emily and Richard, or to see how Loralie also has contributed to the conflict we have seen so far. What i love most about this show is how real these characters and dynamics feel. Noone is purely perfect/right and no one is purely bad/wrong. Its beautiful in its messiness and complexity. I have adored watching along with you and hope you continue.

Koko

Thank you 😌 for another reaction Ms. Audrey! It’s so great watching you learn 🤔 about the heart ♥️ of these characters & their dynamics with each other 👐. The parent to child & grandparent to child & grandchild relationships are so complex 👐. I have encountered your 👉 point toward the end about how it can change 🪢 over time & the adjustment period. It’s quite intriguing 🤔 really. Sometimes I have heard it being described as, being blindsided 🫣. Some people realize their ways were not the best & grandchildren are their second chance. Although 🤔, I have seen this happen in families before there are any grandchildren & the youngest are the ones to get the very best 👌 out of the parents. Of course all families 👐 are very unique & intricate 🪢. Odious means repugnant, hateful & highly offensive 👍!

Lindsey Swift

I'm so glad to hear that your Dad changed after grandkids. My narcissistic mother treats my 4 kids the same as she treated me. Therefore, they also have nothing to do with her. However, she is a lot like Emily, with A LOT of religion added into the mix.
