I remember the first time I watched this in high school this was my strike one for Dean 😂 and you’re right he’s young and hasn’t learned that everyone has their own timeline for saying I love you and you can’t force or expect someone else to say it just because you did

Jordyn Mickus

I really like your view on saying I love you because I as I’ve gotten older I’ve starting to have that same sort of view on saying I love you as well. I’ve come to realize that even with family members for me saying I love you was pretty much put in place of saying goodbye, even if I didn’t mean it. I always just assumed it was kind of requirement because they are family you’re supposed to say I love you and as time goes on I realize for me that I don’t wanna say I love you as much as as I said it when I was younger, because I realized it was starting to lose meaning to me. It wasn’t something that I felt it was just something I felt I was required to say. Even with my friends, I have one friend in particular who always likes to say I love you and I just really don’t like it. It makes me feel very uncomfortable when she says that to me and I know she doesn’t mean it in a romantic way or anything like that but it just makes me feel really awkward now and I’ve discussed this with her and she still says it just because that’s who she is and I’ve accepted that, but she is having a really hard time understanding why I don’t say. I love you back to her. But after so many years of feeling like I had to say it, I have become very selective on who I say. I love you too.

Dean is a good person, but he does have this oh so lovely trait of getting very upset and offended when things don't go his way or when he feels threatened in any way, shape, or form. I totally agree that if he truly loved her, he would have absolutely given her time. It definitely would have helped her feel loved knowing that not everything has to happen at the same time for both of them. This is also Rory's first relationship and Dean's second, so he totally should have had more understanding and compassion. I do really appreciate what you said about feeling a true love for people. I completely understand that and am glad that I'm not alone in feeling it. There should absolutely be a stronger word for what you described! Also, I don't think a single person likes Rachel and enjoys that she's in the story now. I always roll my eyes when I see her!!

Hi! I ran over here and joined when I found out you were watching this show. Gilmore Girls is one of my all time favorite comfort shows. I rewatch it at least 2-3 times a year. I was already on rewatch #1 of the year when u started so this will count as rewatch #2 of the year lol. I’m glad to see you are enjoying the show and I’m excited to see the rest of ur reactions for the series! PS the actress who plays Lexie (Arielle Kebbel) on Vampire Diaries (one of the episodes u just pasted who was Stefan’s oldest friend) also plays a character named Lindsay in this show who you’ll meet in Season 3

I love that Rory didn’t tell Dean “I love you” just because he did, she respects herself too much to say those words and not mean them. Words are very important to her and she always uses them carefully and thoughtfully. I’m the same way about “I love you”, I don’t just throw it around to just anyone, there even are people in my immediate family that I’ve never said it to because I don’t feel that about them and since my parents are the same way, I’ve never felt obligated to say it when I didn’t mean it. I like that in Spanish ‘Te amo’ and ‘Te quiero’ both mean ‘I love you’ but in a different way, with ‘te amo’ being kept for the serious romantic relationship and immediate family while ‘te quiero’ is much more casual, like friends or other family or even a new relationship.

Oh how I can relate to you and how you feel about “I love you”, maybe I’m even more strict with it. I have never said it to anyone that I can remember, not my parents not my friends no one. I accidentally said it in a sentence to my friend at the time “I love you but….” and I panicked. I said it in English and not my native language “it’s a lot deeper in Swedish than English in my experience”. I have never really figured out what it would take for me to say it to someone but I know that it has always felt forced when others have said it to me. I never say it back ( culturally it’s not expected to say it to friends or people you are not close to in Sweden) but my parents and close friends have just learned that it’s not something I say. I just can’t say it if I don’t mean/feel it so I deeply understood Rory in this moment. Her saying she loved the car was hilarious and mortifying😂. Him reacting the way he did was understandable because he is young but it still made it clear that Rory was right not to say it.

I was so torn back in the day because my bisexual baddie heart had such a crush on the actress who plays Rachel but she was in the middle of Luke and Lorelai so I had to hate her but sooooo pretty.

Saying I love you is really tricky yet simple at the same time in my opinion. I do feel it's a gut feeling like you just know, and if you can't say it to a partner / lover yet, it's not a bad thing it just might not mean you are at the same stage they are at. It took me ages to say it to my first boyfriend , my second I think I only said it a handful of times and with my husband it was very quick, like a month, as I just knew! And once I say I love you to anyone, whether it be a lover or a friend, I will say it as much as I can as I mean it - I don't just say it for the sake of saying it. I agree that if Dean truly did love Rory he would say something like ' you don't need to say it back, but this is where I'm at!' and certainly wouldn't break up with her. But... As I have said before with the Friends comments, this is a show and we need some drama lol! Xx

I can understand why Dean reacted that way. He’d planned the evening in his head, thought everything through, knew he was going to tell her ‘I love you’, and had already imagined her reaction. However, it was all new and surprising for Rory. He’s her first official boyfriend and she only knows her mother’s story, plus she’s very insecure when it comes to matters of the heart. Of course she’s taken aback and overwhelmed, which is completely understandable. But then again, they’re teenagers, and for them everything feels like it’s forever and ever, emotionally extreme and the end of the world. I think we can’t really blame either of them, given their age. That's why I’m so glad that, unlike in English, German has more ways of saying 'I love you' than just 'I love you'. We have: 'Ich hab dich lieb' (for friends you like), 'Hab dich ganz doll lieb' (for good friends), 'Liebe dich' (for best friends) and 'Ich liebe dich' (for loved ones). It's like a pyramid of love, ranging from friends you really like to the person you'd do anything for. In English, it's just 'I love you'. You can say 'Love ya', but it's not quite the same. I wish there were more ways to express feelings in English. 🫤 Apologies for the lengthy text 😅

That's so interesting that you put so much importance on the word "love" that you reserve it for a truly deep-rooted "take a bullet" relationship. That's fascinating... and very profound. I admire that. For me, I put a lot of importance on the word "love" which MAKES me want to use that word with the people I care about. I'm a very affectionate person and for me love can mean so many different things depending on the context of my relationship. But I love saying "I love you" to my family and friends, and I love hearing it back, especially from my friends, because I know it's not obligatory. I just love love. XD As for Dean... yeah, he's just a kid. And I agree that if he truly "loved" Rory, he would have allowed her the time to process her feelings and come to her own conclusion on her own time. But I cut him slack because he's young and this is his first real relationship and he clearly does really care about her and he just got caught up in his feels and was hurt when it wasn't reciprocated. To that I can relate.

My boyfriend and I used to say "I Live You" (a mix between like and love) into the first year of dating because I wasn't quite ready to say it, but I knew that I really like him a lot. And then when I felt like I was ready, we had a conversation about how we both felt and if our feelings were stronger for each other than the previous year. I told him I loved him and I asked him how he felt and told him it's okay if he wasn't there yet and my feelings wouldn't change regardless. He smiled and said, I HAVE BEEN loving you. We just got our first house together this week after 2 years together. :)

A rare Actuary sighting! Although it is never quite accurate. Predicting death is not really what we do. We do not pinpoint the day you are going to die. I always explain what we do as risk management for insurance companies. Unfortunately, there are many that are as boring as that guy was, lol. And on the "I Love You" topic, I didn't really date much before I met my now husband. We met at 18 and were saying "I Love You" around 3 months in. In September, we will have been together for 20 years and married for 10. It always felt like a when you know, you know kind of a situation. I've also never been that precious with it, though.

That's so interesting about German - I didn't know that!

omg I never noticed but at the 14:50 mark the microphone comes into frame! Can't believe they didn't catch that! 😭😭😭

I completely understand the whole “I love you” thing. I’ve always believed it’s something you save for the right person, and for the moment when you truly feel it. I’m from Argentina, and in Spanish “I love you” is “te amo,” but we also have another way to express that we care about someone, which is “te quiero.” I don’t really know the exact translation for this in English, because it would be “I want you,” but in Spanish it doesn’t have any kind of desire-related meaning at all. We use “te quiero” to express love for our friends and family, but it’s not necessarily romantic. “Te amo” is what we use with romantic partners, so when we say it, we truly mean it.

Aww thats so cute

Yes in german we really have more ways to express different levels of love and friendships. I think dean just had everything imagined in his head and then it didnt turn out as he wanted And He is also just 16, so i give him that. First deep love hurts! But rory has the right to not say it back. English should really has more sayings maybe she could have used one of those. To every native speaker: are there more qoutes/sayings? Love to learn about them 😁😇

It wasn't noticeable when it was airing on tv but because they had to stretch out and widen the frame to fit Netflix's standards, there's things in backgrounds etc. that has never been noticed before
