Okay so to clarify the Inviting a vampire in thing whoever owns the house has to invite them in so like whatever humans name is on the deed would have to do it so when the lady died no one owned it that’s why Damon made sure she didn’t have any family the house would belong too if she died

“he’s a fucking vampire yo” Should be a T-shirt lol 😂

I love the way they portray Stefan’s feeding like an addict

Damon and Stefan are much younger than the other vampires, so he can’t just ‘override the order’, and I know you’re not a fan of his (not yet, at least) but take Regina, for example. Regina, or rather the Evil Queen, wherever she was, turned hearts to dust, or turned creatures to stone (the gnome who then stood in her garden as a garden gnome) and extinguished so much more heart and thus life. Apart from the fact that she was ‘only’ like that because Snow, as a child, was manipulated by Regina’s mother and ‘told her secret’. Damon has every reason to be angry, whether it’s because of Katherine or because Elena is furious with him for doing what he was asked to do (regarding Elena’s mother), or the fact that Stefan keeps wanting him out of his life, tries to kill him, and yet when he’s in trouble again, Damon is good enough to help. Or take this situation: Damon knows it’s very dangerous to free Stefan on his own, yet he won’t let Elena help him and sends Ric away too. So Damon HAS to try and save his brother all on his own (which he wouldn’t even have to do, given the beef between them) and yes, killing the lady of the house was nasty, but it was the right thing to do. She was being controlled, abused and used as a walking food source. Besides, with the number of vampires there, it’s questionable how much of a life she actually had left. What’s more, he killed her quickly and painlessly. On top of that, the vampires there can no longer hide so safely.

I'm not going to spoil anything BUT there is a reason Stephan doesn't drink human blood. I am so looking forward to your reaction to that.

You can’t always take what Damon says at face value. He doesn’t want Katherine back, he was just saying that to riled up Elena. Compulsion is absolute, you can’t just override it no matter the age of the vampire. Since the lady was the only owner and inhabitant of the house and she was compelled to not let him in, the only way for Damon to get in was to kill her. Stefan is really important to Damon so for him the choice was not hard. Damon will go to extreme length to protect the people he love. As for Stefan, you were on it at the end of the episode saying it is like an alcoholic. But for a alcoholic the problem is not how you get it, but what it does to you and the people around you. And in this episode, there’s the beginning of one of the best friendship in the show, but you already saw that from you comment at the end of the episode :j

Damon can't override a vampires compulsion especially not an older vampire but I don't think any vampire can do that 🤷🏽‍♀️so yes he had to kill her, and with Matt he knew Elena since childhood so of course he's gonna embrace Elena she grew up with Tyler, Matt, and Vicki but I understand why Caroline would be upset about that and you saying Elena should just let Stefan feed off her is so funny but you'll find out why she shouldn't

Haley

Just some info, there truly was no other option for Damon to get in the house. She was compelled to not let him in so only the person that did the compulsion could reverse it. Vamps can only enter a house if they’ve been invited in or if no human owns the house. What Damon did was the only way but he’s so blasé about it that it comes off as the thoughtless

Haley

Also, the compulsion can waver (like we saw with Stefan and Vicki) but it’s less about strength of the vamp and more about the fact that not consuming human blood just makes you weaker in the effectiveness of trying to do compulsion

I don't remember if it is fully explained, but I remember this is how I at least thought it being throughout the series. The owner of the house, lease or whatever socially acceptable way of owning or being in control of the living place and anyone they trust (who they also consider live with them) can invite someone in. It doesn't seem limited to blood relation because spouses and relationship partners that live there can invite in. Sorry if this was hard to read I'm a little high and this is all stream of consciousness.

I was going to comment on the Stefan blood thing but it feels spoilery so I will save it for a future episode where it will make more sense to you. But yeah Damon externalized his feelings and Stefan internalizes his. Stefan will self flagellate to death where Damon will act out. Neither reaction is a healthy response to guilt or sadness.

upgraded to superfans for this and daisy jones! both shows do such a good job of giving characters depth and making you root for everyone and no one at times. Both also in their own ways definitely talk about trauma and addiction (drugs, bloodlust, toxic relationships), and I think it would be interesting to see if you and danny collab or if he sits in on a episode. Also, definitly not trying to add to your plate, but once you finish a series or are looking to start something shorter for patreon or on your own, I think you would like Tell Me Lies on Hulu. Set in 2008/2015, the film features amazing fashion and explores the relationships you build in your early 20s. is so easy to conect to. its a short series, 3 seasons of aboaut 30 episodes but alot of story in that short time.

Damon doesn’t want Katherine back? Be so fr! Your statement is so false, I don’t even know where to begin
