The trifle is one of the shows best moments!! I think about it every time my mum makes trifle. I’m pretty sure the ‘CHANDLER’ after the cookbook pages were stuck together was improvised. 😂 This is one of the best episodes of the show in my opinion.

Absolutely love this episode, especially when we can just have fun, embrace the chaos, and not take everything too seriously. That’s exactly what this episode does. Nothing about it is meant to be serious… it’s just everyone creating complete chaos, and for a lot of people, that’s honestly the reality of family holidays. Phoebe’s dream makes absolutely no sense, but then again, she’s Phoebe. She either makes perfect sense or none at all. There’s very little in between. Nobody has gone through life without having weird, random, probably embarrassing dreams. Ross desperately trying to maintain his “perfect child” status with his parents, even though he’s anything but. The funniest part is that no matter how badly he fails, he never gives up. He’s so determined to protect that image, and that’s what makes his storyline so chaotic. Then you have Ross and Joey, who are completely set on spending Thanksgiving with Janine and the dancers, only for Monica to force them to stay with the family. They immediately resort to acting like little kids, probably hoping she’d get so annoyed & kick them out. They really come across like two obnoxious little brothers, and it’s hilarious. Again, we could overanalyze every single mannerism in this episode… what each character could’ve done differently, should’ve done, or how they could’ve behaved from a psychological standpoint to get a better outcome, but that completely misses the point. It’s a comedy. It’s supposed to make you laugh, embrace the absurdity, and simply enjoy yourself, & laugh with your friends. Friends holiday episodes are some of the show’s best. They were always incredibly consistent with their Thanksgiving episodes, largely because the series originally aired on the best primetime slot on Thursday nights due to its success, making Thanksgiving episodes an occurance in nearly every season. They became a tradition, and episodes like this are exactly why.

No, but actually... 🤣😭👆

Alicia

Yes! 👏 This episode is absolutely hilarious. Definitely not one to take too literally or overanalyze every line or character choice. At that point, you’d probably be better off watching a documentary on human behavior or psychology than a comedy sitcom. 🥴 Friends, especially the Thanksgiving episodes, was always about embracing the chaos. Chandler is slowly warming up to the holiday, Joey and Ross are whiny little brothers who don’t want to be there, Ross and Monica are calling each other out like its a high school fight, Rachel ruins the only dessert, Phoebe’s having bizarre dreams, and everyone is in complete disarray. That’s exactly what makes it so funny. 🙌😆 I remember watching these as a kid and wishing I could step into ANY Friends episodes just to be a fly on the wall. The characters felt like my friends, and there was always something so cozy and comforting about spending time with them. 🥹🥺🫶

This is one the best episodes of the show in my opinion and I can recite the entire confession scene from memory i've watched it so many times.

Dana (they/them)

I get up well before the ass crack of dawn for work and this was nice to get ready with. Love fwens with fwens. I'll be honest this wasn't a favorite episode for me. Some moments got under my skin and I didn't find particularly funny. Harping on wanting the roommate’s friends drunk and stuff, and Monica’s parents mostly just make me mad. Maybe I shouldn’t watch it when my brain isn’t fully online haha, I need a minute after waking up to be a person. Also, I don't love Thanksgiving, for many reasons (I guess I am like Chandler haha). It’s more of a day of mourning for me. I don’t hate holiday episodes but sometimes they trigger me I guess. It's just my personal opinion/feelings though. No hate at all to folks who love it! I will say the joke with the sticky cookbook was hilarious, and l'd probably be the friend that fucks up a dessert but we'd have a good laugh out of it, and l'd probably still eat it😂

I love this episode - it always makes me proper belly giggle ( even though Phoebe liking Monica's & Ross's dad is weird I agree). Btw the outtakes for this episode is so funny - really looking forward to those when you eventually get to them.

Lucy

Yes I agree it definitely one of mine in this series too.

Ava Koppenhoefer

This is my favorite Friends Thanksgiving episode. There’s another one that’s a close second but I’m not going to spoil it. Love the trifle bit, joeys improved CHANDLER, and all of the confessions

Jeanette Dawe

This is my favourite Friends Thanksgiving episode lol I hope you get to watch bloopers when the show is done because the bloopers for this episode is so iconic and hilarious.

I love when in Friends they reveal everyone's secrets at one time> I forget if this is the 2nd or 3rd time they've done this, but it's amazing every time. Ross' face when Monika revealed that he stole their dad's playboys was amazing. It is really telling the family dynamic of that house. It's clearly played for comedy, but it's really bad that grown adults are so scared and want their parents' approval when they're both in their 30's.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but… *technically* when Ross says, “I got tricked into all those things!” in that whiny teenager voice to his parents, he was half right! Rachel & Ross got equally drunk in Vegas, and Ross wanted to eat a bunch of grapes but RACHEL wanted to get married. So in a way, during his parade of apologetic gestures for drawing on her face, Rachel did trick him into getting married. 😂

I always love the way Friends weaves multiple storylines together to explode into a giant truth bomb like this 😂 there’s so many good ones! My second favorite trope is when they take a common, cliché dialogue and twist it into something else: Example A) In Season 2 when Monica gets caught having a lunch and shopping day with Julie, and she has to give the cheating lover speech to Rachel. Example B) When Chandler and Joey first get the Chick and the Duck, and act out the typical ‘new parents’ scene. “You’re gone all day and can’t even spend two seconds with us!” Example C) Phoebe’s gay ice-dancing husband needs a divorce because he fell in love with another woman, so he has to ‘come out’ as straight after being gay for years. “I guess on some level I always knew I was straight.” “Well, I never told anyone this, but there was a few times in college when I’d get really drunk and end up at a straight bar. But I told myself it was the liquor, and everyone experiments in college!” 😂😂😂

becca

this is for sure one of the best episodes, its in my top 5 of the whole show
