Love how this episode shows the real-life dynamic between friends you consider family, and then people who come into the equation much later and have to integrate into that. It’s very obvious Joey wouldn’t give up Monica & Chandler for anything. Anyone he’d be with would have to coexist with his existing friends. That’s a very real-life dynamic. The reality is, some people don’t mesh & never will. That happens between friendships & relationships all the time. Love that they approach it just like they do SO many other things. This show is definitely not afraid to talk about things that NO other show did, and they’ve done that repeatedly. That’s why I love it so much. The show has covered same-sex marriage, suicide, drag queens, older men/young women relationships, older women/young men relationships, virginity, money dynamics in friendships and relationships, child favoritism, co-parenting, challenging female/male role dynamics, surrogacy, drug use, stalking, cheating, threesomes, & tons else you haven't gotten to. You have to understand, these are topics that at the time… weren’t talked about or seen on TV. If another show dared to touch the topics, it was RARE. Friends changed the game. Friends paved the way so shows like Modern Family could exist. And let’s face it, today unless you’re watching true crime, or specific drama shows… sitcoms will rarely include the topics that Friends did because everyone is up in arms about it all the time. And that’s why people love this show. Sitcoms/comedies today won’t touch these kind of topics (rarely) often, and then you have a show that aired so many years ago and DID do that. It feels real. Friends broke countless barriers, made everyone feel represented, & the writers were completely ahead of their time. So yes, while you might hear a few jokes here and there that feel outdated, what Friends did for the landscape of television in a primetime slot as one of the top three shows of all time is incredible. We need to give it props. Phoebe, Rachel, and Ross’ situation is so real. I know people who refuse to buy from Amazon, large retail stores, & mass-produced brands. They want everything they own to be organic, have a story behind it, or be completely unique & intentional. When you have someone like that living with someone who works at Ralph Lauren, loves Pottery Barn, and loves the big retail stores, that could be a very difficult thing to navigate. Ross and Rachel really are just a perfectly imperfect duo. Yeah, they have a lot of crap to work out and certainly would need to talk if they ever got into a relationship again, but my God, are they completely compatible. It’s literally one of those things where their imperfections make them perfect together. It’s like they have some kind of understanding that only exists between the two of them. But on another note, with that storyline, it’s just a matter of what each person likes and being upfront about that. I really enjoyed that you seemed to relax into this episode and not overanalyze everything. This is one of those episodes where you could easily do that, especially with the topics in both storylines in this episode. I like that you just seemed to enjoy the comedy a little bit more for what it was, and that’s exactly what Friends is supposed to do. That made me really happy to see. 🤍

Dana (they/them)

I agree Ross and Rachel should just be together lol. They’ve done some fucked up shit to each other, but each of their mess seems to fit nicely with the other’s. The way he kept looking at her when she’d lie or get caught in one made me laugh. I’m pretty sure he flared his nostrils too. I cannot flare my nostrils on purpose, no matter how hard I’ve tried 😂 and it’s quite entertaining when they make up lies, especially when they didn’t even have to? Could’ve said literally nothing, or the truth lol. But yes make up some crazy shit, so now you have to keep track of and continue fabricating details to make the story seem real, only for it to all unravel later lmao. And Courtney trying to hold it together was hilarious. I love watching the actors struggle to maintain 😂 I’m excited for the bloopers! Also, we are a no shoes inside family (or designated ‘inside only’ shoes) and definitely no feet where you eat! And like you said, especially after walking around NYC?🤢 It’s like in some shows too where people get on their bed with their outside shoes on. That would drive me nuts 😂 And I was nervous when my partner met one of my closest friends. I feel like I got lucky, they hit it off and grew to love each other. I’ve never really dealt with a partner hating my friends or vice versa. Now, family liking a partner (or not)? Another story entirely 😂 But I love the way these fwens love each other, it can be felt through the screen.

I agree to shoes off the table and generally off once in the home. We keep an Asian ethos, and we insist on all shoes off when in our home. I particularly do not want outside shoes in the bathroom. I am alot like Phoebe in alot of aspects and trying to have things that are meaningful in the household is one of them . Now granted I'm not saying everything in my flat is meaningful and one of a kind, as honestly that would be so expensive and I make just over minimum wage. But anything handmade, hand drawn ect is being displayed for sure I love that shit, as it shows someone has put that time and effort into something for you 😍🥰

Regarding how Rachel can afford Pottery Barn — I’m not a numbers guy but I think two things are happening here: 1) Rachel has impulse control problems and is likely in denial about her credit health. 2) Doesn’t she work for a major fashion designer? I think she’s pretty well off these days. Not an assistant or a waitress anymore.
