I’m a lot like Chandler in a lot of ways. it’s rare for me to show emotion around others. I can absolutely cry by myself, and honestly, I can probably cry on cue if I’m alone 😂. I just don’t like feeling that vulnerable in front of other people. I don’t even know exactly what it is, but there’s something about people seeing you that emotionally exposed that makes me want to shut it down. So I really understand where Chandler is coming from with not being able to cry openly. Monica sitting there trying to come up with increasingly ridiculous scenarios that might finally make him cry and eventually just yelling, “You robot!” absolutely killed me. 😭🤣 It’s especially funny because Chandler is usually the one using humor to deflect from his emotions, so watching Monica basically try to break through his emotional force field was hilarious. I also absolutely love that Joey’s moral compass is so ridiculously off-center because, honestly, Joey barely has one. 😭🥴 This is a man who has hit on anything that moves, including people’s relatives, his friends’ sisters, and Rachel’s sister, and he’s somehow managed to convince himself that this particular situation is where he needs to draw the moral line. 😂 He’ll pursue practically every woman alive with his famous “How you doin’?” and get shot down half the time, but the second he thinks Phoebe might be a porn star, suddenly he’s standing on this imaginary moral high ground refusing to watch it. And that’s what makes it so funny to me. His sense of right and wrong is completely dependent on whatever his brain has decided is acceptable in that exact moment. He doesn’t have a consistent moral code; he has random Joey-specific rules that he takes VERY seriously. 😭🤣 He’ll do something that should have him questioning his own behavior and then turn around and act like he’s the morality police because he has decided that this one thing crosses a line. it’s such a perfectly chaotic contradiction. Like, Joey… buddy… your résumé does not support this moral superiority you’ve suddenly developed. 😭🥴🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ And I absolutely LOVED that moment between Ross and Rachel. No matter how chaotic their love life has been, there is always this underlying connection between them that neither one of them can really get rid of. They are tied together. They’ve loved each other for so long, and I really do believe there’s something about the two of them that just makes sense even when they’re being completely insane. I know the show established that Ross was the one who was hopelessly in love with Rachel back in high school while she didn’t seem to feel the same way, but honestly, I’ve never completely bought that Rachel felt nothing for him. I think she absolutely had feelings for him. She was the popular, sought-after girl who knew she could basically have whoever she wanted, and I can completely see her not wanting to make it easy for Ross. There was probably a part of her that liked knowing he wanted her and liked keeping him at arm’s length because she wasn’t ready to give up that position. But those two really are a perfect match to me. chaotic? Absolutely. Is their communication sometimes catastrophically bad? Oh, without question. 🥴 But there’s this weird understanding between them that has always been there. They just get each other in a way that other people don’t always seem to. And I loved Ross realizing that if something actually happened with Jill, it could potentially ruin whatever chance he might still have with Rachel. that says a lot about how much Rachel still matters to him even when they aren’t together. They can both do some seriously messed-up things to each other, but there are certain lines they won’t cross when it comes to completely destroying that possibility between them. And I think that’s what makes their relationship so interesting to me. They may not be ready to be together right now. They may need to grow separately and figure themselves out. But neither one of them seems capable of closing that door. that’s why they get so uncomfortable and weird whenever the other person starts becoming serious with someone else. It’s not necessarily just jealousy. I think part of it is that moment of realizing, Wait… what if this person actually moves on? What if that door really closes? Because as long as they’re both single, there’s always that possibility sitting quietly in the background. They’re messy, they’re complicated, and they have absolutely made each other miserable at times. But there’s something really sweet about the fact that underneath all of that, they still seem to know that they matter to each other. And I genuinely think that’s why Ross pulling back from Jill in this episode feels significant. He may not be ready to go running back to Rachel, but he also isn’t willing to do something that could permanently destroy the possibility of finding his way back to her someday. For two people who are usually so terrible at communicating what they actually feel, there’s something kind of beautiful about how much they communicate without saying all the words.

Hiiii! Haven’t left a comment in a while, but I’m always watching ❤️ Love this episode! And I am such a weeper (even though I was constantly told as a child that boys don’t cry) 😒 I cry at books, shows, movies, and so many of our Glee watch parties are responsible for a huge portion of my tears 😆

I relate to chandler so much about the crying thing. Growing up, I hardly ever cried. Then I watched an incredibly sad and relatable movie about 5 years ago about a male couple dealing with homophobia and its dangers in a religious, conservative country and I definitely open a gate LOL Now I cry about EVERYTHING, even happy stuff.

My best friend Lucy got me a subscription to your channel for my birthday and your content is just what I need after a busy day at work. I loved what you said about all emotions are valid, growing up I was never allowed to show any emotion that were "unmanly" but now I get to show the young children I work with (I work in a nursery with children) that what they feel is important and they're allowed to feel it. Big hugs.

Lucy

Hi Audrey, I love that you said every feeling is valid as it's so true! I work in a nursery and alot of practitioners forget that these are tiny humans and do not know how to regulate their big emotions - it's always 'you're fine' or 'if I give you this toy you need to stop crying ' but it doesn't work like that, especially with little ones. You need to name the emotion, say it's ok for them to express that emotion ( we just don't hurt anyone), and say you are there for them. You don't need to fix them....just be there for them! I myself am a cryer, I cry when I'm happy, sad, angry ect but I know this about myself and if I'm in a serious moment and I cry I need to explain to other person I'm ok this is just how I process stuff.

You are welcome to the membership Hun, remember you do an amazing job and the kiddos love you Xxxx

I would love for a guy to show me slideshows of his favourite fossils! Better than what they try to show me 😂 I used to be the same as Chandler and never cry at things. When i was a teenager, my best friend used to recommend books/shows that made her cry to see if i would cry too, and it never worked. After I turned 25, I would cry at everything! Now the same friend looks at me like I’m crazy because I’m tearing up and she''s not bothered .

Just for the record would 1000% read your book! I also have little concept of time ESPECIALLY if I’m stressed, so a lot of the time haha. I set alarms like a motherfucker. And I cackled watching the dirty jokes click for you. My mind lives in the gutter it seems hahaha. Also, I couldn’t help but laugh at the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. My household had SO MANY of them! But, all of the yes for “all emotions are valid.” I want to give everyone here a hug (if hugs are your thing) who felt like they couldn’t feel or express their emotions, for whatever reason be it gender or age or anything. I can definitely relate. I feel like it made it harder, and took more time to, learn how to feel my feelings of that makes sense. It made my default setting angry. I couldn’t name what I was feeling and/or felt wrong for feeling it. Was called a cactus by family and now I have a saguaro tattoo 😂

Thanks Huni :) same to you! Xx

i hate to cry for so many reasons! Like being told at a young age that "I'm not really crying; those are fake tears and/or don't make me give you a reason to cry." OR maybe because when I do cry (not often), I get really bad sinus pressure that gives me a headache, or hell, maybe its bc im a stubborn Aquarius(who knows). But of course im human so there are times when life be lifing, and I can't hold it in anymore, so i do cry. When that happens, I usually do it in the privacy of my room or in the shower....
