My Man, I’m the Greatest Star, People, Don’t Rain On My Parade, and You Are Woman, I Am Man

I know people dislike her but she is very talented, and the sale of tickets for the show have increased since the announcement. People https://youtu.be/NGuhs4jr1dE

Lea is a highly talented woman and has the voice of an angel! I just hoped that she's grown and humbled herself because how she treated others was disgusting. She should be held accountable but never harassed!

I really hope that she has grown, from what I’ve seen of her she seems more relaxed and content. It seems she gets along better with her former Spring Awakening cast mates, there was a guy from that show who had called her out on something back in 2020 and at the HBO documentary premiere party they actually seemed friendly which surprised me considering what he said. Maybe healing has happened, I suppose we’ll find out! She is going to KILL IT in Funny Girl, I wish I could afford to go but traveling to NY from CA plus paying what they’re charging for her show dates, the best I can do is hope it’s recorded for posterity lol.

This might be an unpopular opinion but i feel like all of the nasty things lea did was post 2013 and i’m not excusing her behavior at all but sometimes grief can be a major personality changer because i truly felt that for the most part the glee cast got on well in the early seasons bts and other bad things i’ve heard about her has been after 2013 so idk

It has been a long time since Glee ended, she could be in a better / more mature place now. And there are a lot of Funny Girl songs in Glee since Rachel was actually cast as Fanny on the broadway revival on the show. And for a while Ryan Murphy actually owned the rights for Funny Girl.

From what I’ve read over the years, she was a very rude child, and caregivers, teachers, employers and perhaps doctors should have intervened back then. I didn’t like her much for a while there but honestly I’m sick of cancel culture. People should be held accountable for their actions and spoken out against, but they shouldn’t lose their livelihood for it (circumstantial). Behaviours and habits take years to change in any case and it wouldn’t surprise me if she slips up sometimes. If she’s working on being a better person, that’s the least we can wish for anyone right? I’m happy she got the role, can’t wait for someone to post it online!

I believe in "accountability culture" and Lea has not taken accountability or put in the work to be granted an opportunity like this. My issue isn't with her taking this role, it is with the theatre industry giving it to her (for the purpose of generating drama and selling tickets) after swearing up and down that it was going to make changes, create safe spaces, etc. This sends a message that theatre producers have no intention of doing that whatsoever.

Don't misinterpret this as my not caring, but does anyone remember when we didn't really know about celebrity's flaws, and so we could just enjoy/not enjoy their performances? (And I am absolutely not talking about the ones with serious, disgusting, even criminal flaws.) I guess ignorance is bliss.

These are all of her Glee performances of songs from Funny Girl.

Kurt’s version of I’m the Greatest Star is my favorite. Fight me.

I know it is not funny girl but I love the song Next to me s4 Rachel and Shelby Be okay S5 Rachel and santana

My only issue with Lea Michele was her non apology. I do believe that people deserve a chance to change but when she made her apology it wasn't an "I'm sorry for the things I've said and done that have hurt people" but instead an "I'm sorry for the way you guys perceived me" completely shifting responsibility for her actions onto the people she hurt. Yes people can change, especially after having children, but there needs to be accountability which in the apology she put out she didn't do. She is a phenomenal performer though and I'm positive she'll do great with this role

While we’re not arguing the lady has talent( I mean, listen to her!), I am however, addressing the elephant in the room: Naya’s version of “Don’t Rain” was better, IMHO. Here’s why; Yes, Lea Michele has a Broadway background, and it’s evident in her interpretation of that song in particular. However, Naya was not from Broadway, so it allowed her to have more “artistic freedom” when it came to that song in particular. I get it, it’s a very Broadway song, but Naya’s version added flair and flavor, whereas Lea’s kinda felt a little flat.

I know you’ve already reacted to Lea performing My Man for Barbra last year, but it might be fun in light of the news to compare the Glee performance to Lea’s standalone performance to see if there are differences between the Rachel character version and the Lea version? Kinda like the West Side Story comparisons. Just an idea!
