What’s a TV Show like GLEE that deals with misfits, overcoming bullying, LGBTQ+, suicide, depression and other “uncomfortable” issues that most tv shows don’t cover?

Does NOT need to have singing.

I’m looking for another show that brings in more people I love like all of you ❤️ My Gleeks, my weirdo creative heart on your sleeve hyper sensitive artist people. MY PEOPLE.

I just posted but I want to be more clear

Alex Foster

Pose and possibly sex education? Crazy ex girlfriend is good if you're wanting lots of songs aswell and deals with some mental health topics but not as much as others do

Samir

Heartstopper totally fits into this category.

AmosRambles

Buffy the Vampire Slayer will definitely bring in new fans. It doesn't matter how many reactors watch Buffy, the fans will always appear when a new reactor appears. The Magicians deserves more love, and covers a lot of the themes mentioned. You should be able to find it on Amazon Prime.

Kelsea Louise

Heart stopper!! For sure it’s absolutely amazing ! Such a beautiful series ! 👏🏻

Ben Franklin

A Million Little Things is a good one for that! There's also some songs that are on the show sometimes so that's cool too!

"Special" is a great one. About handicap and homosexuality

"Sex education " is everything. It's SO good.

Julie and the phantoms Heartstopper Buffy the vampire slayer My mad fat diary Love, Victor Cobra Kai 13 reasons why Charmed (original) Julie and the phantoms is a quick binge, there’s only about 8 episodes and I think you’ll fall in love like a kajillion people did.

Emma

one tree hill, an oldie but a goodie!!

Kristina

I would definitely go with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It's very funny but also touches on some darker topics (mental illness, abortion, and alcoholism all come to mind). Plus it DOES have singing, and the show's already over (I think there's four seasons?) so you won't have to wait for more episodes to come out.

Latasha Moss

Shadowhunters. It starts out slow but gets better and also has Harry Shum in it and he plays my favorite character Magnus Bane.

Patricia Smith

A show you wouldn't think of is the Orville. Surprisingly enough it tackles some big issues but overall remains positive about the future. I don't think SyFy is really what you are looking for but it is really worth the watch. And it is also very interesting to watch the difference in the show from the first two seasons to the third season. But there is very little singing in this. Only three of the characters sing and two of them only once.

Teri

I agree about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s a classic that is loved by a big fan base. Also all the villains in the show represent growing up and the struggles. Little corny in season one but the rest of the seasons are fantastic.

San Bravo

Pretty little liars Riverdale 13 reasons why

Stephanie Authier

Euphoria is extremely triggering and is not at all like GLEE.

I Am Not Chamari

I would definitely recommend Degrassi. It’s “long” but the episodes are shorter, so you might be able to get through it faster. And when people say Degrassi, they are definitely talking about Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Dan Dolan

The new Heartbreak High on Netflix is outstanding but (so far) only one season I'd also throw in: Crazy Ex Girlfriend Heartstopper

Alexandra

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned but Modern Family!

Dan Dolan

Oh I just thought of Fleabag as well

Dan Dolan

Or what about Schitt's Creek?

simon

Heartstopper is going to be your winner it's soo wholesome and it fits the categories

Rheannon

I know it’s not a show, but if you’re looking for another music related movie, you could react to a star is born with lady gaga (and could compare the 3 other versions with it)

Susan Binks

Buffy deals with all these things, I would definitely recommend it

Capri Zonica

Freaks and Geeks (1999) with Linda Cardellini, and a lot of calls people now. No singing but great soundtrack and kind of a dramedy. I'm sure Glee was influenced by its style. Set in early 80's.

Erin White

There are so many good shows, but I would vote for The Fosters and Heartstopper

Georgia Beauchemin

The Fosters is INCREDIBLE! It’s a harder show to watch emotionally than Glee and can be frustrating as the characters keep doing the same things/don’t learn. I cried my eyes out in the final episode. It’s a show before it’s time I feel.

Allison

The Fosters

PS

Atypical it’s on Netflix

William Day

One Tree Hill is an amazing show that covers all the above and has some music aspects to it with repeat real life band cameos and actors singing as recording artists.

Marisa Hill

Maybe supernatural…there is definitely a community based around that show and if you get it going I think that could be a big hit. Very different from Glee though, haha

chipi 🦥

The Fosters for sure

Alex Sivori

One day at a time for sure please! It's funny but deals with some very serious topics. The acting is top notch and it's definitely one of my favorite shows it's one that I've rewatched 1000 times lmao

Cody M

A show that covers some stuff that others shows don't cover is Everything's Gonna Be Okay - 20 episode comedy about a family dealing with the death of their father to cancer, and one of the kids (an 18 year old daughter) is autistic and played by an autistic actress!

Asela Shabazz

I would absolutely love for you to react to This Is Us, The Fosters or Degrassi:TNG all have those very similar themes, just a little heavier with the drama

Teri

Another really good show that has lgbt storyline as well as a hint at childabuse and a few other serious topics is Wynonna Earp.

adautres

maybe shameless? "Shameless is a dark, urban dramedy that overcomes its leaps of logic thanks to fantastic casting, intriguing ambiance, and shock value."

Siobhan Linehan

I've already suggested Doctor Who, which would be great for the channel. But another show I'd recommend is the Disney+ show Big Shot. I've just binge watched it and it's BRILLIANT. The lead characters are John Stamos (who played Emma's boyfriend Carl on Glee) and Jessalyn Gilsig (who played Will's ex wife Terri on Glee). So it would be easy for Glee fans to get into it. And it's also based in a high school. It deals with a lot of similar themes to Glee as well, bullying and sexuality and drama. But it's not dark at all and it follows a girl's basketball team through competitions in a very similar way to how Glee follows the choir through competitions. So I think it's definitely a show worth considering. 😊

Laura

Degrassi is great! A bit of a long haul, but definitely worth it. If you were finding it too much you could always do season 1-7 or just seasons 10-14 as they’re different characters. There’s some ongoing references you might miss but other than that they serve pretty well as seperate shows, with 8 and 9 kinda bridging the gap between them.
