Upsetting that Ryan Murphy held scenes hostage to punish the original cast, Especially after Season 4. And I don't even wanna talk about Blake, I can't even look at him anymore.

Carleen

I have such a hard time separating Ryder from Blake Jenner.

Luke Dennis

This is why i hate finn, outed santanna, called kurt fag and called sues baby the r word and it never gets brought up after, peopl ejust forgive him

SuBin Kim

The guy who plays Jake started dancing when he was 5 and he’s trained in jazz, hip hop, tap and ballet. He turned down a full scholarship from Juilliard to be on Glee

SuBin Kim

I loved the scene between Unique and Finn this episode and how Finn was so actively supportive of Unique getting the part of Rizzo.

Luke Dennis

If anyone wants to see Lipsyncs to glee songs pls follow me on TIKTOK i dont just do glee songs i do a whole variety i also take requests.

Aurora_Concepts
>>100102940

also that Ryan wrote in insults into the script to upset the person it was targetting. I have a feeling thats why Finn said that during this episode, feels so out of place otherwise.

Mia

I remember why I hate this era of glee. Blake (Ryder) is a gaslighting abuser and it’s hard to watch scenes between him and Melissa (Marley) after knowing what he did to her. This is an instance where I can’t separate the actor from the character.

Mia
>>100103845

*Spoiler* I have to agree with Bryce on this one. Do you also hate Kitty for causing Marley to develop an ED and giving her laxatives? What about Mr. Schue for having inconsistent policies as a teacher? Or Quinn for attacking Rachel’s femininity and telling her to get sterilised? You can’t just pick and choose. Personally, I find all of the characters to be awful people in their own ways.

Samir

I always love me some pearls of wisdom from Audrey at the end of those watch parties ♥️🙈 Thank you Audrey! ♥️

Jennifer Lawrence
>>100108292

Same. I'm just glad she made it out of that relationship and seems to have found a much better relationship with someone who values her. What he did to her is absolutely unforgivable for me.

Emma Mellin

loved this reaction! but is anyone else having trouble with Vimeo?? it cut out on me 3 times during this episode and restarted from the beginning and i then have to try and find where i was again never know where in the episode i am 🙈🙈

Lenajah Madison
>>100103845

spoilers lol but yeah i 100% agree with mia and bryce a lot of characters did horrible things but they barely get blamed and hated for it

Sabrina Louis
>>100102940

What do you mean by "held scenes hostage", like which ones? Never heard that story before. What happened?

Zach Davis

Ugh I can’t watch until my hearing comes back, stupid ear infection, but it’s in my watch later on Vimeo, Stupid bodily functions 😂

Zach Davis
>>100108292

Not to defend him in any way but I heard it was a toxic relationship from both parties, either way I’m so happy she found love again and is happy with chris wood. Not sure what “Ryder” Is doing now.

Mia
>>100108292

@Zach he abused her first and she started fighting back, which he tried to make seem like they were mutually abusing each other. Her defending herself is very different from being toxic on both ends.

Zach Davis
>>100103845

Who knows, they might’ve had a heart to heart off screen 🤷🏻‍♂️ or they just at that stage in the friendship where they know the others don’t mean what they say in anger? And what would you have them do as punishment, oh you said a bad word, we’re gonna shun a main character of the show.

Zach Davis
>>100108292

I agree but I’m glad she’s actually happy with chris, I think they met on Broadway before supergirl 🤔

Mia
>>100108292

No, they met on the set of Supergirl. You’re sending a lot of mixed signals.

Viola.S1
>>100108292

About that Blake / Melissa situation, I know her telling of the story and I know he said it was toxic from both sides, but were there outside sources confirming one side or the other? I'm not a Blake fan or anything, but I would like to know the truth before hating someone. Since I didn't follow the story, for me it's he said she said so I feel kinda uncomfortable about the Blake bashing. Which could totally be because I don't know all about the situation, so if anyone could give more informations, that would be great.

Kristina

They couldn't use only Grease songs for the auditions because they needed to save some for the next episode!! When I was in high school our drama director didn't let anyone sing pop songs for their audition and now I totally get why. Also I'm guessing Blaine not wanting to do the musical was put in just so they could have the we-don't-have-anyone-to-play-Danny storyline. Always felt like a bit of a stretch to me.

Selma Jabr

Have to admit, this isn’t my favorite episode. It makes no sense to me that the episode following the breakup won’t have Kurt or Rachel in it. The next episode does but the one after doesn’t either, but I think the season really picks up with the 8th episode. Also the actor for Ryder won s2 of the glee project, but his actor was abusive to his then girlfriend/wife Melissa, who actually plays Marley. So no one likes or supports him.

Cory Stanish

I liked Ryder (and Blake Jenner) before he turned out to be abusive, but even then it was incredible to me that they could have picked Ali Stoker as the winner for Glee Project Season 2 and they didn't.

Aleshia Bernal
>>100103845

It may be more then a decade old but everyone here knows is Audrey’s first time watching so why don’t you try to not insert spoilers. We’re all here to watch her enjoy the show.

Aleshia Bernal
>>100108292

There were cast members from supergirl who said they witnessed strange behavior from her when he was around.

Aleshia Bernal
>>100104663

Becca Tobin (Kitty) is also a professional dancer. They’re basically the new Mike and Brittany as far as dance cast mates goes.

Turnip Crazy

If you do a Grease watch party I can't recommend enough to do both the original movie and then Grease Live. Which I think there's a few clunky things that happen within the show, it's on the best Live shows they'd ever done. Also, because I am a fan I'd ask for a watch party for Grease 2, but I'm fine with just the two versions of Grease.

Aleshia Bernal

I just had one comment Sue did resign as principal in protest because the school wasn’t doing what they needed to to stop Kurt (the gay kid) from being bullied. She said she couldn’t do anything from inside the principals office so she needed to be back in the halls to help support him.

Luke Dennis
>>100103845

I didn't insert any spoilers, others had thou. Everything I said Audrey already knows

Luke Dennis
>>100103845

With santanna it comes from a place of hurt with finn, there is no legitimate reason for it.

Luke Dennis
>>100103845

I always educate the people how say stuff like it cause punishing them doesn't solve anything

Luke Dennis
>>100103845

First of all, I hate alot of the actions characters do but on the show they always come up with a reason for it, it doesn't justify it but there is a reason but with finn no reason

Mia
>>100108292

@Viola, while I understand that, I'm more inclined to believe her about the situation given the story behind the eye injury that tore her iris, and she and Blake had a 'funny' story they told in interviews to cover it up. He admitted that he caused the injury and physically abused her, while there is no evidence that she was an aggressor. The only physical violence towards him was when she started fighting back. It's why I used the term gaslight because years later, he was still trying to make her question her own reality. Also, never said I hated him. I said I hated this era of Glee.

Kenyatta (KD) Smith

I really don't mean to add grease to the fire but everyone focusing so much on not liking Ryder because of what Blake did, can we just focus on the show and the characters not the actors because he's gonna be on there for 2 seasons just like Puck isn't going anywhere and not to mention Rachel was no angel neither was Lea in real life. It's a show, let's talk about the show. **No pun intended with the grease to the fire comment just noticed that 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

Lydia Shepard

Ryder who is played by Blake Jenner was the winner of season 2 of The Glee Project all the other new characters from this season were people the casting directors found. And I agree I love Finn's storyline with directing the musical. As for the audition songs they chose non Grease songs because the next episode we see them perform the musical and they did not want to use all the songs for the Grease auditions as they use them for the next episode.

Dylan Appis

the person that plays jake puckerman his hometown is 25 mins away from where i live my counselor best friend taught him ballet

Annie Willow

I think it’s hilarious that Sue just cannot insult Marley. She can spew the most creative insults for absolutely everyone else on the planet but she physically cannot insult sweet Marley Rose.

fry

i wish finn had more solos in s4 when he sounded the best he ever did

fry
>>100103845

i agree with bryce it has nothing to do with the character but the actual writers glee is problematic and offensive not just finn but every character has done and said questionable things

Jackie Warner

If you want to do a grease watch party I'd totally suggest the live tv version from 2016 with Aaron Tveit, Julianne Hough, Jordan Fisher. Its how I became a fan of Jordan fisher. I watched him on Disney Channel Original movie Teen Beach Movie but this is how I became a fan when he sang "Those magic changes"

Samir
>>100108292

While I respect your passion and agree with you, it is not the place for this. If you don’t like the episode don’t watch it. No need to ruin the episode, storyline and the entire era for everyone else. This is a happy and positive place and no one’s interested in arguments about abuse. Cause if we’re gonna start talking about how abusive some of those actors were, we might as well start from the top and that would just ruin the show for us.

Samir
>>100108292

Also, people come here to have a good time. You don’t know their stories and what they’ve been through. Do you really want to trigger someone’s trauma just to rant about an actor?

Aurora_Concepts
>>100102940

basically if ryan was pissed at you, you were written out of the episode and or most of the season. e.g. Why you barely see Quinn after season 4

Mia
>>100108292

@Samir I get your intention but other people seemed to agree and made similar sentiments about the actor. On top of that, I would’ve never elaborated had it not been for someone else’s comment. And we’ve actually had discussions about stuff that happened on the set during the early seasons of glee on here and discussions about Lea around the time she got cast in Funny Girl.

SongsFromASuitcase
>>100108292

I don't mind these discussions as long as everyone is VERY aware of the words they chose to write so that they stay respectful of any opposing opinions.

SongsFromASuitcase
>>100123196

These discussions are gong to come up and I dont mind if they still to one chat within the thread and not overwhelm all the comments. I've also mentioned that people are welcome to there chatter as long as they stay VERY aware of their choice of words so that they dont insult someone who may have opposing views. If I feel a chat is getting out of hand then i'll simply earase that one section to lower the tension. It's a finely tuned balance here ha!

Audrey is totally right. Life is about never-ending change and adapting to that change. I went into the pandemic having translated German to English for 24 years. I had an M.A. and had lived in Germany for six years and Austria for one. Never in a million years would I have imagined that machine translation would have decimated my industry like it has, and I would learn to be a Zoom Producer and facilitate online learning sessions for Fortune 500 executives and engineers. Many of my colleagues and I have experienced major drops in our workflow, and many have been leaving the industry or pivoting to add new skills and jobs in our 50s and 60s. I fell into Zoom production just like Audrey fell into developing her community. Just go with the flow, keep an open mind, and keep living your best life.

>>100118383

Still upset we didn't get Blaine as Danny- would've been perfect!

scarr
>>100111815

yeah the link wasn't opening at all on my computer until I tried it on a different one 🤷‍♀️

dville

The teacher who was in True Blood was also a total badass in The 100, another great tv show you could do for a watch party.

Kenyatta (KD) Smith
>>100123196

I get it but I just hate when people emphasize whatever happened in the people's real lives because it changes the tone of the show/watch party which is why we're here and if people can't separate character from actor maybe they shouldn't be here at all. Or at least don't subject everyone to the negative aspects. I just feel like we should keep THIS space positive. Because THIS space is simply to react to the SHOW.

mightstill

The thing with Sue is not that she didn't understand Unique, or she's "afraid of things she doesn't understand." She's purposefully being awful because it's easier coming from her, who everyone shrugs off because "that's just how Sue is", than conservative parents who might have (unreasonable) issues with Unique being Rizzo. Sue even says "We're in Ohio. It could get bad." Sue is actually trying to protect Unique, and doing it in the only way she thinks she can. Not that Sue is right to say Unique shouldn't play Rizzo, but her heart really is in the right place.

Hadas Baram

I don’t think you’ve mentioned it yet but if you remember we’ve told you about the patient in Zoey’s that was singing with the other dud that was Evan in DEH on broadway… so that’s Kitty! She has a very unique voice and I think she has great character development when the seasons go on :)

Lydia Shepard
>>100198425

Exactly I even remember hearing that the local channels in Lima Ohio (Which until I read about this did not know that Lima Ohio is real place) refused to show the episode of Friends where Carol and Susan got married. Which tells me that they are very very conservative in Ohio and that there would be so many parents upset and complain to the school board about Unique playing Rizzo even though Unique is the best one for the part in that school. I definitely got that Sue was just trying to be protective especially when you watch one of the later episodes when they make a gender neutral bathroom.

Suzy Differ

That new kid is the one that wants season 2 of a contest Is glee project

leslie martin

imo people hate Kitty bc the show wants you to feel bad for Marley and bc Marley is described as a good and nice girl. but if you look at it, she's mean just like Quinn and Santana. but these two are mean to Rachel, and even if she's the star of the show, the writing wants you to find her annoying. and they want you to think Q/S are funny, but Kitty is mean. imo that's what they missed with Kitty's character. bc Q/S have strong fanbases but Kitty didn't get really big with fans until s5 i'd say. if they had wanted you to feel good about Kitty, they would have written her in a way that would suit you, just like they did with Q/S. and they'll actually will at some point, that's why in later seasons some people appreciate her. some fans can't erase what she did and dislike her, but they will brush over other things done by other characters. truth is, the writers /producers manipulate you into liking/disliking characters, i mean.. it's their job yk haha

Heida
>>100198425

No, Sue is just transphobic. I'm really sick of people making excuses for the crap she says and does just because she's funny. Finn was definitely wrong with what he said but Audrey is right, Sue has said and done way more awful things. Plus Finn apologised right away while Sue has NEVER apologised for anything.

Heida
>>100141490

Don't forget Vanessa Hudgens and her incredible rendition of There Are Worse Things I Could Do!

Heida
>>100123196

AMEN!!! I don't get people who don't like Ryder JUST because of Blake. I think we all agree Blake is a POS but RYDER IS NOT BLAKE. And Puck is not Mark. That doesn't mean the characters can't be horrible and problematic but that's THE CHARACTERS. You can't judge the character based on the actor's actions. Doesn't matter how invested you are, you can still differentiate between the actor and the character (or you should). I'm VERY invested but I can still differentiate between them.

Heida
>>100103513

Ryder is not Blake though. If you don't like him because you don't like the character that's fine but you can't judge the character based on the actor's actions. Doesn't matter how invested you are, you can still differentiate between the actor and the character (or you should). I'm VERY invested but I can still differentiate between them.

While I'm super proud of Ali, I think it's more important that she actually seems like a decent person.

Very true ! Although they were not actually married thank goodness ! Mellissa was very brave and helped a lot of people when she revealed the abuse she endured from him

Malik
>>100466282

Yes she did and got a new man that was on supergirl with her and played Kai on vampire diaries and he’s way finer than him anyways so Good for Melissa ❤️

I appreciate the support for Kitty, but I think the actual issue is that she's still one-dimensional 5 episodes in. With such unlikeable characteristics, I think you need to start introducing the sides you can empathize with earlier in the season. I'm not a Kitty fan so far, but maybe I could be in the future. I think the main issue with this episode in terms season story architecture is the zero focus on Kurt and Rachel. You can have auditions in one episode, callbacks and cast list in the second without entirely dropping half the show. I think this was sloppy - I checked the airdates and this aired alone so to me they created all this drama in episode 4 then almost completely ignored the story, and did in fact completely ignore all their characters in the NYC side of the story. I haven't seen the rest so I don't know where it goes, hopefully it gets better.
