its so weird to see you guys interact, like logically I know y'all are married so you guys like spend time together, but a someone who watches you guys separately, seeing you guys in the same frame shocked me

Samir

When is Glee episode 10 coming out?

katie

it is taylors version and red taylors version came out in 2021. all too well when it was first written was 10 minutes but she only released a 5 minute version when it first came out in 2012. the 10 minute version was never released until 2021.

This song is about Jake Gyllenhaal. He was 29 and she was 20 when they dated

I’ve heard a theory about the "your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones" lyric, it’s a play on the term “Brooklyn Broke” that means cosplaying as a broke hipster when you really come from money

katie

also this is about jake gyllenhaal when they dated off and on in late 2010/early 2011 when she was 20 and he was almost 30. let’s just say we don’t like him at all. also are you able to add the shortfilm here? i really love the shortfilm but am already subscribed to a few other patreon pages so i just can’t afford to subscribe to another. i know a lot of us would like to watch it here

Liv Heskett

You guys are too funny together. It’s like a golden retriever and a black cat. Perfect duo 😂

So All Too Well was originally released on the Red album as a 5 minute song (which is probably the version you've heard her perform at Tiny Desk and Rep tour) but she let it slip in an interview that the song was originally 10 minutes and they had to cut it down for the album. So when she announced she would be re-recording her albums the fans essentially "bullied" her into releasing the full 10 minute version. As others have already stated, it's about Jake Gyllenhaal. She did say in an interview somewhere that the "Red Scarf" is a metaphor but she didn't say for what. Fans have theorized that it represents her virginity which plays in with the line "You keep my old scarf from that very first week cuz it reminds you innocents and it smells like me".

I just speedwatched both yours and Danny’s video and left a HUGE explanation under Danny’s but I just want to say that I love your reaction on both and I love whenever you guys collaborate, even before Danny had his channel (my most memorable was when you both watched the rocky horror episode on glee) Red is such an amazing and interesting album emotionally because she had clearly gone through so much at the time she was writing it and it almost feels like a turning point (which I guess it is because it was her last “country” album technically) But she explores so much in it, like all too well being the overarching relationship but then she wrote The Moment I Knew about the birthday party so going from such a broad situation to a very specific moment is so wildly talented to me idk how to explain it Anyways, loved the reaction and love seeing you both!

As someone mentioned “Brooklyn Broke” is a term people use; I also suspect there’s a bit of double meaning to it. Given she talks about driving upstate, I assume they were spending a lot of time in NY, and some of that time may have been spent in Brooklyn.

no hate, but I think you may be misusing the term "easter egg". some of the lyrics are more just references to her life that were maybe in pop culture at the time, but the "easter eggs" are often her planting things for the future. for example, when she released "ME!" the music video included a sign that said "Lover" before she had announced the name of her Lover album. that's why fans are so crazy theorizing about dates she's going to drop a rerecord or something, because they're usually overanalyzing her instagram lol

Elisha Li

You both recognized this song because she sang this in her Reputation tour which i think you both watched? Or at least Audrey did! She loved the song at the time! And then you heard it again in tiny desk, but both versions were the standard 5 minute version whereas this one is an extended version

Elisha Li

Personally I take the lyrics “all i felt was shame as you held my lifeless frame” is a reference to her losing her virginity (in addition to the red scarf). Overall I interpret the song as a heartbreak song about the guy she lost her virginity to then broke her heart because he didnt actually care about her

As has already been touched on in other comments; this song is about Jake Gyllenhal. Almost everything you referred to as an Easter Egg is in reference to him… the scarf, plaid shirt days, Brooklyn, age gap, her turning 21 (he didn’t come to her b’day party) all of it was documented knowledge in some way during this era. Google them and you’ll find pics of most of the stuff or articles that explain the lore more eloquently than I can. lol.

You guys are too cute! More collaborations please! This is Taylor's Version, hence from the vault. A five and a half minute version of the song was originally released on Red in 2012 but Taylor made the "mistake" of saying it was originally 10 minutes, so fans kept begging her to release it. It's not just a fan favourite but also considered one of her best songs lyrically. Not surprised you thought it was about John but it's actually about Jake Gyllenhaal who Taylor dated when she was 20 and he was 29. Taylor has said the scarf is a metaphor (fans think it could represent her losing her virginity to him - "It reminds you of innocence and smells like me"). Yet she was photographed wearing a scarf with Jake and his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal back when they were dating. Jake was even spotted wearing the same scarf after they broke up. As she sings in the lyrics about it being at his sister's house, Maggie Gyllenhaal has been asked about it multiple times and has said she has no idea where it is or if it even exists. "I'll get older but your lovers stay my age" - He dated actress Jessica Lowndes (who was 23 at the time) a few months after breaking up with Taylor in 2011 and model Alyssa Miller (same age as Taylor) in 2013. Even now, Jake's current girlfriend, Jeanne Cadieu, is 15 years his junior (he's 42 and she's 27). "Brooklyn broke" is a term used for someone who dresses like a broke hipster when they really are rich. But they also spent most of their time there because I think Jake lived there, or at least his sister did. "Broke my skin and bones” could refer to the saying ”sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”. It's tied to another song on Red called Treacherous: "And all we are is skin and bone. Trained to get along." "I'm a soldier who's returning half her weight" could mean that she was trying so hard to fit in with him and his friends that it drained her of who she was ("I'd like to be my old self again but I'm still trying to find it"). Or that she’s lost the weight of him and is now free, because "tolerate it" from Evermore has a line that goes "Gain the weight of you, then lose it”. She references throughout the album how this person made her feel insecure about her music tastes and how she wasn’t 'cool' enough. Example from We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together: “And you would hide away and find your peace of mind with some indie record that’s much cooler than mine" and I Bet You Think About Me (From The Vault): "I bet you think about me when you're out at your cool indie music concerts every week". Also, In The Moment I Knew she delves deeper into her 21st birthday party he didn't show up to. "And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?" - A twin flame is a spiritual belief where one soul is split into two and exists in two bodies, so finding them is literally meeting the other half of your soul. It’s more intense and passionate than a soulmate but can be much more destructive and incredibly toxic. Also, think of it this way: The hottest fire is blue flame. Bruises are also blue. The consequences of such an intense bond burned them and painted them "blue" (which is the color of sadness). It can also be a reference to the song State of Grace from the same album in which she refers to herself and this former love as “twin fire signs, four blue eyes". Both Taylor and JG are a Sagittarius and blue-eyed. Besides Tiny Desk, she sang the original version on Reputation Stadium Tour so you've both heard it. I recommend doing an evolution of the song because it has gone through so many changes. Starting with the original recording on Red, the Grammy's performance in 2013 and the SNL performance in 2021.

Could someone please request Audrey to react to beautiful ghost by Taylor Swift! She wrote it with Andrew Lloyd Webber for the cats movie, which was not well received but the song is beautiful!! Help i'm broke 🤣

Becca

Y'all were so cute, I finally caved and headed on over to Danny's Patreon to binge his Taylor content. We'll make a Swifty of him yet! I'm sorry he apparently got some backlash, I'll try and leave a few extra positive comments for him. :)

Twin flames are tumultuous soul mates. And they often don’t end up together because while the relationship is passionate it’s also very rocky and again tumultuous. Most fans think this is a reference to the fact that Taylor and Jake are both fire signs hence twin flames. But the twin flame bruise to me means they were twin flame soul mates and she was left bruised by its ending. And lost half her weight is in reference to being broken down for sure. A few songs you should react to or bookmark for the red reaction that will further explain this song and its references are the moment I knew (references the birthday party Jake didn’t come to and was on the original red release in 2012, she recorded it the day after her party and there are pap photos of her looking upset entering the studio) then there’s begin again (also on the original red release about her falling for someone new and nice after Jake and feeling awkward about this new guy laughing at her jokes bc Jake always said she wasn’t funny) I bet you think about me ( from the vault released in 2021 on Taylor’s version another reference to him not finding her funny “you laughed at my dreams, rolled your eyes at my jokes.” She used this reference to connect to “I wa a never good at telling jokes but the punchline goes…” she also heavily references songs like we are never ever ever getting back together also n the og red album about Jake.)

Would love to see you guys watch the behind the scenes of the short film of her directing process!

Amy Cope

1. You guys should do more stuff together because this was adorable. 2. For someone who's "definitely not a Swifty" Danny you really went hard on the lyrical analysis here 😂. Good job though, I think you're take on the 3 months in the grave verse is spot on. They dated, broke up, hes like "it wasn't serious" but 3 months later is all up in her DM's asking Wyd?

Em

Love this! One small contribution: the “One of us!” originated with the 1932 movie Freaks :)
