Howdy howdy!

As I begin planning the novel adaption of TC, I'm going through what aspects of it I plan to change to make the novel version more streamlined than the comic - one of the main changes I'll probably do is having only a few bird species, i.e. having just "Eagles" and "Crows" and "Hawks" as opposed to having all the subspecies of them etc, mostly because a lot of bird names are country specific and that wouldn't work in a world where our continents don't exist haha.

My question for y'all is: what aspects of the comic do you think worked really well and you'd like to also see in the novel? Obviously there will still be bed-sharing y'all know it's my weakness lmao.

I suppose one of the good things about doing the comic first is that I've got all the feedback comments so I'm sort of pre-product testing even haha.

I always liked how the more stressed characters like Ky and Del got, the more their appearance subtly changed to reflect that (stubble, messy hair, eyebags etc) so for a written format, maybe it's subtle changes in their behaviors and habits instead? Or "as well" I should say cause "instead" makes it sound like that wasnt also the case in the comic

I totally get wanting to shrink the scope of bird species, but Hon has always been one of my favorite characters, so I hope you keep our gorgeous drag flamingo! I also loved how more predatory birds tended towards the military/leadership roles and smaller/gentler birds made up service oriented jobs - it makes for some fun exploration into the nature/nurture debate when a typically "non-violent" subspecies like Lulu decides to join a rebellion.

If possible I would love to see more exploration of some of the darker themes in the comic. I feel like there are so many fascinating aspects to the world that are so genuinely horrific (crows being systematically drowned, people get their wings removed, scra facing the threat of death if he so much as steps too close to the center of the city he spent his entire life in, etc...) and I wish we had more time to see how that effected (and/or continues to effect) individual characters on a more personal level, basically, how the way the world they were brought up in affects the way they think and their choices.(obviously this is already being explored in the comic, I just wish it was more thorough!)

I really liked Ky's feats of athleticism, like going through the laser obstacle course, diving to save Scra of course, and his single telling punch to the Owl. At first it was like wow cool! Competent protag! And then, especially with his facial expressions or lack therof, as time went on it really helped build suspicion for me on who he really is. Actually the way suspicion was cast on everyone both "good" and "bad" was really well done! It matched their character development and backstory reveals, and it didn't feel too rushed or repetitive. And I love that Scra, the "dirty crow", is the one who is the most honest out of everyone

I really thought it was cool how Scra could do awesome imitations and Ky rocked the dives and things like that. Would be hilarious to see all the crows getting distracted around shiny stuff. I liked the slow reveal of hiw athletic/military competent Ky was when he was faking being a kook

yeah I'm def gonna have the chance to lean more into the bird stereotypes, there are more coming up in the comic but I'd like it to be more of a prevalent thing in the novel for sureeeee. And yeah still keeping the big Ky reveal, it's gonna be a test as to writing it in a way that doesn't give it away, especially when writing in his POV, but I'm excited for itttttt (we love an unreliable narrator).

Whenever Erka is swooning over Ky and Cyrus (who can blame her really) it should be "I'll follow you anywhere" Erka cooed
