I'm still working on outlining the book but want y'alls thoughts on the setting - it's sort of between either the military school or like everyone working in a Government building type vibe. I basically still just need a place all the characters would run into each other that doesn't seem forced. Of course both of those settings come with their own implications, and as the school is kind of self contained if I had Scra working in an office he's obvs just a bigger target to the outside world. Unless I just make it a contained department or something.

If I went with the academy I'd want to give it less of a school learning vibe and more of a training military one prob and make them seem older, and focus more on the non-school plot since that mostly had a back seat anyway.

so...yeah, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it and what you would be more interested in reading so I can make a decision -.- I'm definitely overthinking it but want to make sure the vibes are right before I get really stuck in.

[Edit:] Y'all immediately solved it for me, I'm just gonna have them be on a military base so it's all the isolation and hot military drills minus the boring school I didn't want to write I'm such an idiot I love y'all so much this is why I ask you haha

This may be a dumb question but couldn’t they just be in the military? Has the dorm-style work/living combo, combat drills, an underlying air of homoerotic themes… that’s my impression of what goes on in the us marines anyway

Annie Graves

This is tough! A lot of the story (at the start) depended a lot on them being isolated away. What if maybe a balance of the two and they are already inducted soldiers and are working on a base? So there's still the isolation, the setting could be very similar, there would still be ranking systems, etc, and they and could be altogether more mature and experienced.

Megan Grey

You've had the same idea as Annie and honestly yes I love this omg

Mary Lamphere

The academy could allow the larger cast to be different departments but the office environment would allow the larger cast to be contained while not being part of the chain of command like instructors would require. Does that make sense? But the academy means the boys are still cuddled up with less of a plot to work around how Scra ends up snuggled with Ky in the first place.

Megan Grey

haha I'm so dumb this is pretty much the solution to my not-wanting-to-write-a-schoolfic problem omggg

Andi

it would be kind of funny to see ky fake being bad at fighting already IN the military

Annie Graves

Also, if you go that route, I was military so if you ever need any advice or anything I'm open to talking about it! No pressure.

Raphael Nguyen

Yeah I also think this solves a lot of problems

Megan Grey

maybe that would just make him seem more out of place as to why he's there? more sussy? or I could just go the opposite way and have him be good, but only at a specific style (as used in Redguard or smthn). Will have a think haha

Hardtreads

I want you to know, I am reading this regardless of where you set it! I only wish that you have a good time writing it! <3

Megan Grey

ahhhh ty will def have to pick your brain for daily base life etc if wikipedia fails me lmao

Megan Grey

haha aw mate thanks I sure will try lmao

Annie Graves

🙌🙌🙌 I'm very excited about this project from you and I think you're going to rock it!

I know for a lot of military here in the us the physical prowess is only part of what they’re after, so I don’t think it would be too out of place to see someone like ky. You basically need to be able to follow directions and willing to work hard, bonus points if you’re in desperate need of a job. the physical stuff can be taught. Many join for personal reasons or because they are really good at tech or operations. So people could assume he’s there for some sort of desk job, except why is he super jacked and also kind of a himbo 🧐

I think you have found the answer in the military base lmaooo. My thought from a non military perspective was a similar westpoint esque acadamy of sorts. More of a grad school than anything else for people training to be military higher ups. Which I think would work well for the reason scras ostracized from the raptors But just food for thought, more than anything else

I actually think I like the office because it is very different and I will have less of an urge to compare it to the comic and be like, 'Well THIS is how it was in the Webtoon' but maybe that's just me and my knee jerk reaction to change. But I like what everyone else said about the military so I really see it both ways!

Lilith S.

top gun vibes but they can fly without the planes 😂

Megan Grey

the two will end up being different anyway as I make things tighter in the book but I think the vibes will feel different also so hopefully it'll be enough of a removal for you haha.

Megan Grey

mmmmm I could have some kind of speciality/officer training for command role type thing just so they don't have to sit through basic (and I don't have to write that lol).

SorryKinda

I love this comic bc of the military vibe. Very relatable to my early 20s with all the shenanigans. But we worked in offices both 'millitay' looking and high-end/high-tech, lots of briefing rooms, gyms, chow halls, random ass fields.
