Hey Ken, any plans to continue this painting? It would be awesome to see the full process of completing it.

Lisa

You said you used liquin over the underpainting, but that is flammable. Can I use galkyd lite instead? I use gambol as the solvent, not sure the less toxic/flammable version of liquin.

Hi Ken, I just finished watching this video, and I’ve also seen the ones on underpainting. I have a few questions and wanted to ask if you could help clarify them, just to make sure I’m understanding everything correctly. Is the main difference between underpainting and grisaille that in underpainting the focus is more on shapes, while in grisaille it’s more about values? Even though both involve working with both aspects. How do you decide whether to use an underpainting or a grisaille or both? Thank you!

Hi Ken, When you were painting on the grisaille, did you use a monochrome or colored reference? I am assuming monochrome would be a lot easier.

Mandy Maung

Yeah I kind of figured out you used colored reference towards the end when you played the game with the students. My bad for commenting too early! Do you gesso the paper?
