Studio Studies live sessions are a combination of a live demo, a Q&A, a critique, and a studio visit. Here’s how it works:
We will be painting and drawing together on Zoom. I’ll be making progress on an ongoing project, explaining what I’m up to, and taking questions about my art, your art, or art in general. I’ll be able to look at everyone’s work while we paint together, which will allow me to offer personalized feedback and guidance. You'll have access to a selection of recommended references which I’ve used in prior workshops, which means you’ll have additional video resources which will help you continue your project beyond our “Studio Studies” sessions. In my experience, practicing in a group is more fruitful than practicing alone, as feedback given to a fellow student is often relevant to everyone in the room, and (surprisingly) it's much easier to internalize feedback given to others than feedback given to ourselves. Also, spaces that facilitate group practice can foster community building, which has been imperatively important for artists throughout history. A community of peers gives you an ongoing fresh perspective on your work and they love to geek out about the craft–it’s awesome. You all share a deep love of art, and that can be the stuff of great friendships.
How to prepare:
Set time to paint or draw on the dates listed above.
Set up a device with access to Zoom by your painting/drawing station.
If you’d like my feedback on your project, make sure your device is set up in a way that will allow you to show us what you’re working on.
Select a reference from this menu of recommended references. You may select a reference I’m unfamiliar with, but my ability to provide you with useful feedback will be more limited.
If you have any questions about this format please comment on this post. I’ll make edits to ensure everything is clarified.
Hope you can join! :)
