Story:

You return to the kitchen, trying to shake off the grin that won’t leave your face. The place is as loud and busy as ever, pots clattering and orders being shouted across the line.

Between tasks, you start asking a few of the other chefs if they know anything about the woman from earlier.

Most of them just shrug, but one of the servers finally chimes in while wiping down a tray.

Server: 'Oh, you mean Executive Chef Alice? Yeah, she’s kind of a big deal. Teaches at the city culinary academy. Her students come here every few months for training tours. The head chef used to be one of her students, actually.'

You blink, surprised.

You: 'Seriously? She didn’t mention that.'

Server: 'She doesn’t really talk about herself much. But she’s got a reputation. Tough, smart, and picky about who she works with.'

You think back to her smirk in the cooler and the way she looked at you before leaving.

Maybe this wasn’t the last time you’d see her.
