House of Alphas Chapter 88: So Hungry I can Eat A Sentence (Patreon)
Content
You were sat sideways at a table… your legs crossed your posture upright…gaze upon nothing at all.
Your alphas had fixed up a table for you, clearing the one small area just for you to sit and sip your tea that you rarely touched.
You don’t know how long you lay curled with Six in your arms, but when you finally moved, you found the strength to carry her by yourself. You laid her upon one of your personal blankets from your nest and wrapped her gently within it, creating a soft cocoon.
You refused to bury her down here in the dark.
You wanted her to be somewhere beautiful, where no animals or grave robbers could get to her.
-“Ahhh!”
You heard someone shouting as they ran down the hall. Just as the alpha got into view a trident stabbed him in the head and he landed with a thud.
You blinked at him slowly as you watched Sukuna walk up to the man and retrieve his trident. He took it out with a foot on the man’s back and then looked over at you. The two of you made silent eye contact before he walked off, returning to finish the rest of the slugs.
You didn’t fault him for not saying anything. There was nothing that could be said to make you feel better.
None of them knew what to say.
And all you told them was to finish the rest.
Their comfort to you was the blood they shed in your honor.
Now and again you would hear another slug dying or their screams as they tried to run away from your alphas.
They never got very far.
The sound of their killing spree no longer made you uncomfortable. In fact, it warmed you just a little more to know that these monsters could never hurt anyone else again.
If only you had done the same to Hanyu. So that she would not have hurt Six…
Your throat grew tight as you felt the pain of your regret choke you once again.
Was your shadow spell too weak? Were you too weak? Mentally or physically? Both?
If you could go back you would. You would go back and make sure you killed her with your spells…learned how to do it back when your alphas tried to push you... Or you would have just stabbed Hanyu in her heart. You would have done something to change this fate. Just as you had done the others. If only you knew… if only this were part of the game, so you could have stopped it.
Six didn’t deserve the fate that befell her.
It was tragically ironic that it was your sword that had ended the very life you wished to save. It was a cruel…cruel mockery of your failure.
A reminder that stains your hands.
The blood that was spilled.
Due to the blood, you couldn’t spill.
The very thought of it all made you want to scream and cry in anger. You never felt emotions quite like this before.
Never felt hatred quite like this.
Hatred that burned you alive, inside and out.
You would think that Mahito and Kenjaku were on the top of your shit list but it seemed Hanyu wanted the number one spot. You couldn’t think about anything else but her. She wasn’t even a main character of the game, she never made an appearance.
In the grand scheme of things she wasn’t a threat, she was a weak coward... but you refused to let her live peacefully after what she had done. She could have left peacefully- you would have let her. You didn’t care about her, you just wanted to save Six. You would have happily made the blood oath to get Six to safety. You would have done anything she asked…she had to have seen that...had to have known you would have followed through with your side of the deal...walked out with her and made sure she was able to go...
So why?
Why did she trick you...?
Even after the alpha got away she could have easily left…let Six go and fly off… Six was not a threat to her…Six couldn’t have hurt her- your alphas were busy with the guards… she was free- free to go… but no…She killed Six and made sure you couldn’t heal her. That sick-sadistic-bitch… she was worse than a slug…Worst than any monster you have ever fought.
She wanted to cause you pain…and she succeeded.
You will need to return the favor.
Tenfold.
You thought of what you’d do when you found her. One of your favorite ideas was to push her close to death, heal her, and do it again and again until you felt satisfied. And when you were finished with her…you would rip her heart out with your bare hands…and possibly cook it yourself to feed your alpha...
“Sweetheart?”
You breathed back to reality, looking toward Nanami… His expression was blank, but you could see the worry within his gaze.
“Yes, my alpha?”
“It’s done.”
“...How many died?”
Your blonde grabbed a chair dragging it in front of you before he sat down. He rubbed his hands upon his lap, then leaned forward. “Three…including Six…”
“…” You slowly nodded letting the pain of losing two more souls sink in. “…What... were their names?”
Your blonde frowned deeply, “I’m sorry… I’m not sure…but I can ask around, and see if I can get their names.”
“Please…and if you could also figure out where their families are…I would like to return them home...”
Nanami seemed to be hesitant for a moment but then he said, “I will…”
By his reaction, you could only assume that perhaps the families don’t care for the omegas or betas here. It wasn’t uncommon for them to be sold for money. But some of them could have also been kidnapped so you’d at least like to make the effort. “…If the families don’t want them then…can we bury them in Tokyoto?”
“Of course…”
You nodded as you slowly sipped your tea which had grown cold from your neglect.
There was a moment of silence before Nanami spoke again, “I’m sorry…I Should have checked better…I should have…done a better job as your alpha-“
“Nanami…” You cut him off gently while resting your cup on the table, “…Don’t try to play the blame game with me…Hanyu was the one I had handled…or thought I handled…I should have killed her right there and then… but my magic wasn’t strong enough…or perhaps I wasn’t mentally prepared… whatever it is…this is something that I must deal with…and I plan to do so…” You finished speaking as you looked toward Six, no longer able to see her face physically, but you could see her still…her image burned within your mind. “…Besides…” You continue with a softer tone, “…you didn’t check over there because you knew Six was scared… you were trying to give her space… It’s unfair for you to feel guilty for something you had good intentions for…”
“…Though you say those words…I can’t feel any better…not when you hurt like this little bird…” Nanami’s head hung… his shame pungent within the air, overpowering even the stench of death.
They all felt they failed you. Picking at themselves, trying to figure out what they could have done to have prevented this from happening. They always do this...desperately trying to protect you physically and mentally… trying to help shoulder all your burdens. They wanted you to give your pain to them so they can hold it for you...
You just couldn’t allow them to do that… especially not with this one.
You touched Nanami’s cheek as you leaned down to kiss him on the crown of his head. “Thank you, Nanami, for being a good alpha...and always taking care of me. But please don’t beat yourself up over my mistake...if I had listened to you the first time this would not have happened. I was stupid...but I won't make the same mistake again..."
The two of you stayed in that position for a while before Nanami said, “…You used to have this look…this sort of innocent outlook on our world…but I had given up and decided it was who you were...your kind nature…I never wanted you to meet cruelty...and lose that light…” Nanami moved to look into your eyes, “…but I see that has changed…it seems like that light within your eyes has also died…for this…I’m truly sorry…I’ll bring her head to you…if it’ll make you smile again.”
You gave Nanami a pained smile, brushing his blonde hair gently. “Thank you Nanami…but I do not wish for you to bring me her head…I wish to be the one to sever it.”
“Then I will grant you your wish.” The seriousness in his tone was not missed. You did not doubt in your mind that your alphas would stop at nothing to provide you the vengeance you seek.
“I know you will… Now go, get your money back.” You released a little chuckle, trying to lessen the moody atmosphere.
“It’s…in Reggie’s office, but while I’m in there I’ll see if he kept records of his staff and where they came from…if not we can ask Getou, he has his ways of finding anything.”
“Go on then my alpha.” You dismissed Nanami with a kiss, returning to your world of dissociation.
You sat in silence once again, watching as Nanami left.
You were unaware of the time that had passed, but you heard shuffling in the hallway. A few omegas had run out and gasp at the messy scene around you.
“What- what- h-happened!” An omega woman cried as she fell before one of the decease. Her wet gaze looked up at you for an answer.
You stared at her silently, she was shivering and trembling, her chatter sounding as if she were in an ice bath. Which was weird. Perhaps Uraume froze her.
The others came trailing in after her. A few of them released a scream just as the girl had.
You ignored the outburst, looking toward Uraume who came toward you.
“Prime- um… Raven.” They bowed politely, “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“No Uraume, you did an amazing job thank you.” You smiled as they blushed slightly, trying to hide under their bangs.
“N-no! W-Wake up! W-ake up!” Another omega whined on top of their fallen alpha
You noticed that the omegas and betas that seemed to have gotten the ice treatment were the ones that were crying. The others were huddled up with each other, unknown of what was to come to them.
“Uraume?” You questioned over the wailing. “Did you know Six?”
Recognition flashed within their eyes, “Yes…they were one of the newer omegas… came about a month ago-“
“Y-you’re a m-monster!” The woman cried out again.
Monster?
You?
They dare call you the monster!?
Uraume barked out on your behalf, “Don’t you dare speak to her in that tone! Raven has chosen to free you, show her your gratitude!”
“G-gratitude!” The boy yelled as he stood, “Th-they t-took my alpha away!”
Another woman cried, “Sh-she was going to mate with me on the m-mating moon!”
“There was never going to be a mating ceremony you stupid slug! And you would be lucky if you even survived another month!” Uraume shouted in anger.
“N-no! My alpha was d-different!”
Larue stepped in, “They just lie…I have never seen any omega leave out of here…not in the way any of you would like…Please…Don’t mourn these monsters…they don’t deserve your tears.”
“No! I-I-she-she loved me-mm!”
Everyone stopped talking as all of your alphas walked in. Toji was carrying a body that was wrapped up in a blanket and so was Gojo.
It was silent as they placed the decease right next to Six and then they stood by you like your royal guard dogs.
“They giving her some trouble?” Sukuna hissed with a glare.
Uraume nodded while crossing their arms, “Indeed, the ungrateful brats! They would prove more beneficial served up on a plate.”
The ones that talked back to you gasped in fear. The threat loud and clear.
Getou scoffed, "Are you sure you want to eat such slugs? Perhaps they'd be better served as Taka feeder."
“Princess.” Toji said your name, in a way one would speak to a queen, searching for a command.
You took a long sip of your tea before setting it down and with Gojo's help, you stood.
Walking around the table you spoke, gesturing with your hand, “You call me a monster…when all I wanted to do was set you all free... This place was a cage... And yet you allow delusion to trick yourself into believing your very captor would set you free. They didn’t care about you. You were an object. You were a toy. To do with as they pleased. Don’t be foolish.” You got some looks but no one spoke. Their eyes cut to your alphas and then the ground. You stepped by the omega who was giving you hidden glares, “Please, speak your mind. You’re free to do that without permission.”
“-My-my alpha was not a slug.” The omega man whimpered, cradling the dead body in his arms closer to his chest.
You scoff at the statement, “Do you see those three bodies over there? They died to these monsters that you seem to love so much… and there were many more that were sent to an early grave. Don’t sit here and tell me your alpha was different...” -suddenly you realized that this omega was similar to Remi, except for a few bumps and bruises, their skin wasn't as tattered. The ones that were frozen were the ones that acted selfishly and put themselves first. Stepping on the others and turning a blind eye to those suffering... all to get the special treatment. “…but you didn’t care…none of you cared. You just cared that they treated you differently. That they didn’t hurt you…ha.” You let out a sharp laugh. “…Okay then. You choose me to be the monster. Then stay here and rot with your alpha.” With that, you turned on your heel.
"Wh-what!? Y-you are just going to j-just leave us here?"
"I'm a monster remember? Or would a monster kill you where you stand? Do enlighten me."
"Ah-ah w-we are sorry!"
"It's time to leave my alphas, I've grown tired of this desolate place."
"W-wait! Forgive m-me!"
Your alphas nodded, packing up the dead within the inventory worm.
“Are you sure you want to leave them behind?” Larue questioned Getou quietly.“…They will die…”
Getou spoke without a touch of passion in his voice, “My omega has made her decision, do not bore me with what we already know.”
That comment made the blonde look toward you. “I know… they called you a monster prime omega but they were foolish and became… attached. That sometimes happens within this dark place…one act of kindness can give them hope…it’s not necessarily their fault…it’s more of a defense mechanism… they did what they did to survive..."
“People survived down here without hurting others...they chose to be selfish, so they should be happy they didn't receive the treatment Remi got.”
Larue looked a bit surprised by your cold words. He nodded his head, going silent as you all moved out of the bar.
You could have shown mercy or said some heartfelt words, but your kindness was wearing as thin as your patience.
You had places to be and an alpha to find.
You gave them a choice.
And they made it.
You don’t have the fucks to give for delusional slugs that look at you as a monster. You wish you were a monster. Wish you could have killed Hanyu in cold blood.
You made a mistake.
You've been trying to be too kind, walking around with open arms. Giving everyone your tears, your smiles, and your kindness. Not anymore. Not ever again. Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.
You didn't need any other lesson other than this. This was enough and you weren't going to let it get further.
If that makes you a monster then so be it...
Walking out of the broken down building you didn’t see Yuta at first. It wasn’t until you were leaving the ghost town you ran into him.
“Hey~“ The alpha waved, sitting cozily by a fire with Choso lying on his side. The beta's arms were tied behind his back with a strange-looking sash with symbols on it. The beta seemed to be asleep.
“Woah…this is quite the group.” Yuta commented looking at all the nervous omegas and betas behind you.
“Yeah… sorry about that.” You apologized to Yuta. “…Uh would you feel comfortable helping us escort them out?”
“Yeah, sure.” Yuta agreed with ease.
“Hey, buddy.” Gojo greeted, “How did it go with that guy?” He pointed to Choso.
“Oh-Not too bad, uh but he did try to make a run for it when that girl came out here…was that someone important?” He questioned scratching the back of his head.
“She…” Gojo trailed off not knowing what to say.
You slowly averted your gaze as Getou took the moment to answer.
“She had killed Raven’s friend.”
“Ah! I’m- I’m so sorry I didn’t capture her…” Yuta’s eyebrows furrowed deeply.
You shook your head, “No… you did well Yuta… this was a mistake on me. I let her get away…”
Nanami rubbed your back gently as he spoke, “We will find her, but for now we need to focus on getting them out of here.”
Yuta slowly nodded, “Sure thing, I know a good route to go with fewer monsters…but it might take a little longer is that alright?”
Your alphas looked toward you as you thought about it. You wanted to get out of here… wanted to leave as quickly as possible… a selfish part of you wanted to go the quickest route…but there were still lives that you needed to protect. Innocent people that still held faith in you to save them.
You didn’t want to risk their lives for your selfishness.
You knew your alphas and you would be fine... but you couldn't guarantee their lives. They couldn't fight...and there would be too many of them to keep safe.
They haven't wronged you in any way... perhaps they deserved your kindness...
“We can go… the safest route.”
“Alright, I’ll have Rika carry our prisoner. Rika!” Yuta calls his wife as she floats out of darkness, making everyone scream and run in horror (besides your pack and Uraume).
“WILL YOU CALM DOWN!” Sukuna shouted as he jumped in their path, herding them like sheep.
"Hey now! Stay over here!" Gojo yelled as he blocked another path they were running to.
“Rika’s nice! I swear!” Yuta shouted, “Ah- say hi Rika!”
“H-hiiiiiiIIIiii~!” Rika waved with her long claws, her teeth glistened as she spoke and that just made the chaos worse.
You stared on with a sigh, seeing everyone run around in a frenzy.
“Rikaaa… scaryyyyy?” She asked you with a finger to her lip.
“Uh….” You move your hand in a way to say ‘kind of’.
The curse spirit seemed sad as she disappeared back into Yuta’s shadow. Her voice drifts away as she says, “SssSoOoRrry…”
The wild frenzy settled down as Toji rubbed his forehead in annoyance, “I’ll just carry the guy.”
“Good idea.”
~
It took a while, but everyone had made it out alive.
It would have taken longer but Sukuna and Nanami would not allow much of a rest. They pushed everyone on, letting them know they could stop when they made it out.
They weren’t being cruel, resting in the shadowlands was not wise, especially with a big group. Relaxing too much could have ended in death.
The omegas and betas were headstrong and pushed on without much of a peep, or complaint. The promise of a brighter land kept their legs moving to freedom. Sometimes in fights, they would even throw rocks at the monsters to distract them.
You were quite taken aback by their newfound courage.
When you finally made it, the omegas and betas ran out of the cave shrieking in joy. Some of their hands were raised to the blinding sun, while others collapsed in exhaustion but they still harbored a happy smile.
“W-we made it!” They cheered excitedly, touching everything they could.
The grass, the trees, the flowers…whatever there was.
Some of them went as far as kissing the ground repeatedly.
You squinted your gaze as you looked up, covering your eyes with a hand. The sky was so bright and warm. You felt as though the warmth just radiated joy. You weren't even down there that long but even you can admit it felt too long. You couldn’t imagine what the others must be feeling. Able to see the beautiful world above, after months of being in the dark… their tears of joy were warranted.
Looking to your side you watched as Uraume’s expression stayed in a state of awe. They breathed deeply, taking in the fresh smell before sighing blissfully, “…I forgot… how…it all looked…was it always this…like this beautiful... did something change?”
You shook your head, “Nope…Coming from that shitty place…just makes you appreciate it more…”
“Yes… I guess you are right…” Uraume spoke softly, "Oh-look..." They spotted a little critter in the tree. The omega walked off as if in a trance, staring up at the creature with a lean-to their head.
You weren't sure if they were looking at the creature in an 'awe so cute' way or an 'ooo yummy' way. Either or you found that you were smiling at everyone's excitement.
You just wish that Six could have been here too.
“Baby?” Toji touched you gently, “You alright?”
You looked at him and then the beta that was thrown over his shoulder. Choso had yet to wake up during your travels. What the fuck did Yuta do? Slip him some ZzQuil?
“I’m fine… I guess.” You shrug, but then you speak swiftly. “…Maybe a quick rest is fine, then we need to get moving.”
Toji let out a little chuckle, ”I know… you are ready to move to the next thing… and find that alpha… but you aren’t one of those machine things, you need to rest.”
“I know… I just…”
“Look at how many people you saved…how happy they are...” Getou spoke up. “…I know you hurt but you should enjoy this…”
“How… how can I…” you turned away not wanting any of the others to see you cry.
Nanami pulled you into a hug rubbing your back, “It’s okay, to take a moment to breathe. It’s important for your health…Allow yourself this rest…”
"We saved wayyy more people than I anticipated if you want me to be honest. I think this is awesome...well... I mean... not awesome that those other people died..."
"I knew what you meant Gojo... thank you..."
“Don’t be stubborn.” Sukuna snipped, somehow sounding comforting with his catty words. They had a softer feel to them.
"You got company..." Getou murmured, and within the next moment you heard-
“P-prime omega?”
Quickly wiping your eyes you turned to see a few of the omegas standing before you. The woman in the middle had a broken hair clip in her hand. It was a black clip with gold Rosabelles on it. It was very pretty even with the wear and tear it had been through.
“Um… this was Six’s…it’s the only thing she had..."
You looked surprised as the girl handed it to you, taking it with careful fingers you stared at it. "It's...very pretty..."
"...We were there... when the alpha took her...you were very kind...and willing to risk your life for her... thank you...for helping us...sorry we don't have much to offer..."
"It's alright..." You spoke softly, "...You do not owe me anything, this...was more than enough..."
"Would you...like for us to bathe you?"
"There's a creek nearby..."
"Please, won't you join us prime omega?"
You realized that you were still wearing your soaked clothes...and your skin was still painted. It was as if you were Kratos wearing your sins.
Perhaps, you can have a moment to breathe and be happy with what you have accomplished.
Why did a part of you feel like you didn't deserve it?
"Prime omega?" The others questioned you again.
Looking up at them you finally said, "Okay."
"Thank Tengen."
You whipped your head around to look at your alphas with a raised brow, not knowing who said that. They all avoided your gaze awkwardly while Gojo pointed at Getou secretly.
However, you didn't miss how they seemed extra cautious around you.
Damn- you must have really been scaring them, you aren't that far gone!
You're still you...with a little more restrictions that's all...and a little less fucks to give...it's not that big of a deal.
They had nothing to worry about.
You were fine.
