Matt and Daniel welcome candidate for the leadership of the New Democratic Party of Canada, Yves Engler to talk through the assasination of Charlie Kirk, performative victimhood among Canada's podcaster class, and CTV's apology for the grave sin of saying something that is true and widely acknowledged.

Love you guys, and please stop platforming candidates who openly wish to keep capitalism intact. Voting NDP isn’t anti-imperialist, it just helps Canada’s polite managers keep arming the US sponsored genocide.

Lyrics To Go

Just to be clear, Yves is running for the leadership of that party, not currently running on behalf of it. And his stated platform is an anti-capitalist one, as he discusses here.

Super excited to hear this. Is this a patron early release or exclusive?

joancutesac

Daniel I respect you but do you honestly believe an NDP Canada would be a dotp?

Lyrics To Go

I don't think anything of the sort. Successful communist revolution isn't my litmus test for which activists or thinkers to listen to. I respect if that's your line in the sand.

It's the capitalist state that drives the genocide. Not trying to start a fight, just pointing out that more of the same will only keep it going. Thank you for all that you do and I hope we meet further left.

I think that a DoTP is a lot to expect of the Canadian working class. Candidates like this are good because they sometimes help to take the boot off the neck of the third world, if only slightly, and if they fail in their domestic agenda or a redirected by the DoTB (which I fully expect), they help drive the working class further left. Politicians pushing socialism in any form at least serve to normalise those principles. When they're forced or convinced to betray those principles, they demonstrate the false nature of liberal democracy to more and more people every time.

Em

can report yves posters all over dt toronto & folks passing out leaflets at protests

I hope it gets full release at some point! Yves is great and more Canadians need to hear this! One of the best episodes yet

Well said, Yves is about as anti imperialism and anti capitalism as it comes!

Voting for liberal parties in Canada will not end genocide because these politicians, regardless of rhetoric, promise to keep the capitalist state intact. The Canadian state is materially tied to NATO, arms manufacturers, oil monopolies, and mining corporations that profit directly from genocide abroad. To expect these politicians to "take the boot off the neck of the Third World" is to expect them to dismantle the very system that funds and legitimizes their rule. I sincerely wish you were right, that repeated betrayals by liberals will "wake people up," but unfortunately history shows us the opposite: liberal betrayals demobilize, demoralize, and absorb popular anger back into the parliamentary circus. Look at the Balkans, the former Soviet Union, Germany... the working class is not radicalized by endless cycles of voting and disappointment, we are radicalized by organization, agitation, and direct struggle against imperialism and capitalism. If the task is to end genocide, then the only honest path is to advocate socialism directly and build the organs of struggle capable of fighting Canadian imperialism. To continue voting for liberals who promise socialism through parliament (as Yves and his party do) is to lead the working class down blind alleys and help preserve the system that makes genocide inevitable.

my only issue with the spin this week is no mention of montreal-er, kid koala

The NDP is hugely disappointing on the national and provincial (Ontario) level. Yves is not an NDPer by platform, so he would go in a really different direction.

Wow please don’t misgender bluey

He is literally running for leader of the New Democratic Party and his own campaign site makes explicit that his platform aims to leave capitalism intact. I find it strange this podcast community treats certain kinds of language with microscope-level precision (like pointing out how the term "Judeo-Christian" is historically inaccurate and offensive). This type of linguistic attention to detail is rightly taken very seriously here and a reason I've been enjoying and learning from the show for nearly two years. But when someone points out that a capitalist politician, by definition, will continue implementing capitalist policies that materially enable genocide, that observation is dismissed by patrons & co-host as a "litmus test" too radical or inappropriate to name plainly. This inconsistency is hard to ignore and makes me seriously reconsider supporting this feed.

Lacey Jones

Its so funny that there are almost as many people claiming the Mossad killed him as there are Israelis weeping over him.

Lacey Jones

Im also a little shocked at how many Americans dont recognize stochastic terrorism, or more simply, how Charlie Kirk did EXACTLY what Joseph Goebbels did, just in a modernized way.

Michael L

Longtime listeners will know, this show sure talks a lot about Canada.

Maté “I’ve never taken a hint” at 54:04 is utter gold and needs to be appreciated.
