Matt and Daniel are joined by poet Ahmed Sarsour live from Deir al Balah in Gaza to hold forth on the reality of daily life in a war zone, hopes for the future, and making art in the midst of chaos.

We had a few technical issues given the precarity of the connection, and you’ll notice that Matt exits early without notice due to his own tech mishap, but we’re all happy to bring you word directly from Gaza this week.

You have a few missing line breaks in the description that mess up the links! Same thing in the live drop post for the video. In the third paragraph ("Please donate...") and the fourth paragraph ("Walls, Windows..."). Looks like both of those paragraphs are means to be split into two paragraphs.

This might be the first time Bad Hasbara has made me cry. I held it together until Ahmed’s poem, but the final lines just cracked me open. Please make this available for non subscribers too 🙏🏻 everyone should hear Ahmed’s story.

Great episode, love to Ahmed and his family, free Palestine! I wish Daniel would stop correcting Matt, no need.

As someone who learned English by binge-watching American series like Dexter and Law & Order (entire franchise), I totally connect with Ahmed's self-taught journey of mastering English through Vampire Diaries and Grey’s Anatomy. Great episode, and what a powerful poem at the end!! So happy y'all are making it accessible for non-piggies 💕🙏🏽

ooph that poem was visceral

Amazing work ikhwa. You’re doing more than many in the Arab world. We thank you.

Ahmed, all gazawis are the best of us. Period.

Listening to him reading his poem. The bit about - Spare some plastic - I'm with all honesty of word, unable to breath and tearing up. Anger, shame, guilt...

KittysBrainVomit

To add levity - I shared this podcast with a stranger at a convention. I hope she enjoys this episode and is as moved as I was.

Beautiful to hear from someone in Gaza, just a “normal dude” who wants to live a normal happy life like any one of us, and is prevented from the smallest comforts by an evil zion@zi regime. Thank you for sharing his story with us!!

Daniel, if you don't mind me saying. You're looking particularly handsome without the glasses today. Inshallah we will free Palestine ✊

This has been one of your best episodes. Thank you! Sending so much love to Ahmed and his family

I keep thinking Sarsour sounds familiar. After a few days, I finally recalled Linda Sarsour, another Palestinian. Any relation? Regardless, Linda Sarsour would make an excellent guest.

What an absolutely stunning, beautiful soul. My heart is in smithereens for all Palestinians and the evil inflicted on them. As an aside, I teach English for a living and I am so impressed by his fluency and the fact that he is self-taught. Thank you so much for this episode. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
