I'm afraid if Mamdani wins, the millions of supporters he's energized will be left disillusioned in a way we probably haven't seen since the Obama years. His campaign by its very nature leaves capitalism fully intact, meaning that under a Mamdani mayorship, New York's ruling class will keep their capital flows that give them complete control over the city. How does he imagine he'll enact his progressive agenda when Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, the Dursts, the Rudins, the LeFraks, the Rockefellers, etc are all free to move their capital and manipulate the machinery of the city's economy against him? That's like handing your enemy a loaded gun and expecting them not to use it. Not to mention that if a Mamdani administration ever actually takes power in New York, the ruling class won't just resist, it'll internationalize its counterattack: Wall Street will immediately launch a coordinated capital strike, offshoring the city's wealth and tightening credit lines, while hedge funds and private equity firms lean on their foreign affiliates to destabilize municipal markets. Zionist lobbying networks in Manhattan will take their cues from the Knesset, branding the administration a threat to israel and mobilizing donor networks accordingly. Conservative Catholic and evangelical blocs will rally behind the Vatican & reactionary foreign regimes to pull public support from the mayor's office. New York's powerful exile and diaspora communities like the anti-communist Chinese networks in Flushing & Sunset Park, Shah-era Iranian elites on the Upper East Side, Russian networks in Brighton Beach & Midtown, and Cuban/Venezuelan reactionaries in Queens and northern Manhattan will become conduits for counter-revolutionary financing and foreign intelligence coordination. Meanwhile, foreign capital from the Gulf and Europe will tighten its grip on the city's real estate markets, freezing development, crashing valuations, and deliberately engineering a municipal crisis. Then there's the insurance sector, where global reinsurers in London, Zurich, and Frankfurt will be tapped to wage a financial war from within, hiking rates, pulling coverage, and cutting credit lines. Their international capital networks will turn inward to wage lawfare on City Hall, bleeding Mamdani's administration and making New York ungovernable. And then there's Albany! Even though Mamdani will control City Hall, the fiscal and legal choke points still lie at the state and federal level, where reactionary state lawmakers, financial lobbies, and bond rating agencies will deploy lawfare and financial warfare to keep him pinned down. The municipal bond market, tied into London and Frankfurt capital pools, will punish New York City's credit rating at the first sign of deviation from neoliberal orthodoxy. Federal agencies will slow-walk or outright block funds. The NYPD, FDNY, and MTA bureaucracies, all riddled with entrenched power blocs, will drag their feet and engineer dysfunction to delegitimize the administration. Mamdani is too smart not to understand all this. It seems he's walking into an ambush on purpose.
