Hey Hogosphere,

Matt and Daniel were recently interviewed by the Jewish Forward and the article just dropped. We weren't sure how it would go, given that the Forward officially "doesn't take a position" on Israel/Palestine (and you know what that usually means.) Overall, though, it's a fair and fairly positive piece! Let us know what you think.

These two anti-Zionist Jews think the Israeli government is so bad, it's funny

Matt Lieb and Daniel Maté, co-hosts of comedy podcast 'Bad Hasbara,; try to put a humorous spin on a serious subject.

Hurray!!

Interestingly if you ask Alice Miller, the answer is “yes”. She noticed that the way German parents raised their kids made them ripe for fascism and for perpetuating abuse on others

I did not name it as the definition. Described it as a key emotional dynamic. He messed that up.

Jonathan Kadmon

Yeah the lib zio crowd at the Forvarts clearly disdains your position but they were indeed fair and at least faithful to what you guys expressed.

the pic of you two cuddling on Daniel’s couch is the highlight 🥹 too bad Adam wasn’t also there !

Frida

The paragraph about Roger Waters and Mohammed el Kurd is so full of bullshit and no counter arguments. Also they didn't mention Francesca in the photo from the live show booo

Kim

"so-called Israeli and US propaganda" coming in hot right outta the gate! Lol

" 'I think the combination of moral earnestness and complete lack of decorum is compelling,' said Maté." Yes, yes, and more yes.

Given that the author is in Hillel, this was genuinely more positive than I would expect but I also feel like he hasn't really listened to it, lol. The picture of Matt in Daniel's lap is my favorite part though. Chefs kiss

“You can’t be a liberal and Zionist forever,” Maté told me. “You’re fighting yourself.” 100%

Is it just me, or do the oversized quotation marks, in the piece, look reminiscent of the (( )) type used by antisemites?

Yy

People who overuse quotation marks are usually pompous and insufferable

The sofa snuggle pic is EVERYTHING. Fantastic profile, mishpucha! ❤️

Him pretending not to understand what they mean by Zionist was really fun

I also really enjoyed the very first line, "so-called Israeli and US propoganda" 🤣😂

Kol hakavod khaveyrem! Well done!!!

It’s a good article but the fact that it was written by a former Hillel staffer makes me question how seriously he was taking the podcast or whether he is just dismissing it as “cute”. My question is… is he questioning his own life as a Zionist leader, or is he setting you up for trashing later?!

Nelly Lakkis

To me it sounded fluffy and condescending: the comment “so-called Israeli and us propaganda” is ridiculous, the paragraph about your guests was practically defamatory and being ex-Hillel is just a massive red flag.

Mirco

When asked, he [Daniel] defined Zionism, a little enigmatically, as “the refusal to heal Jewish trauma.” It is a pretty good and clear definition, actually.

Jay Ronimo

It's kinda ridiculous given that pretty much all guests AND the most moral hosts are "controversial"!

Jay Ronimo

And why not? Maybe that WOULD be a good definition - or at least description - of Nazism (German post WWI trauma).

Marie

I think the title of the article mocks the podcast, the author does not take the podcast seriously. Also there is mention of the ‘war’ rather than genocide.

Marie

The picture of you two is great

Great piece. Well done you two and thank you for your work, getting us through thee past few years!

Also love the photo!

Great article. And I've never heard the inaugural episode so I'm glad the article provided a link to it. Keep up the great work!

John Chapman, AKA Johnny Appleseed, was indeed a real person.
