I was expecting a pivot from Cat Power to Rufus does Judy at Carnegie Hall which is another great concert album covering another artist’s concert album.

The key to understanding Candace Owens’ weird antisemitism is her husband is a British aristocrat. Her father in law is in the House of Lords. She has the antisemitism of the British establishment, a lot of Masonic conspiracy stuff and deranged ideas about French history (hence her fixation with the Macrons).

I've definitely been a "you definitely don't "gotta hand it to Tucker"" type in the past, and I still stand by that to some extent, but ya both made a very compelling case here. Its not his doing that a former Fox News propagandist is doing more real and better journalism than the *entire* liberal U.S. media, on the most profound moral issue of my lifetime. And he is undeniable doing valuable journalism here. I'll never like or trust him, I think hes am ultimately sinister and dangerous invidividual, but it is what it is.

I wonder if they wanted the Druze guy because he's from the Golan Heights (I dont actually know that) and since thats where the only snowy mountain is, maybe he's the only one that's actually good at bobsled.

i can hand it to tucker for opposition to a genocide and having the balls to walk into israel. i would just hope folks stay on guard with that dude. tucker claimed (within last two years) that he was mauled in bed by a demon, had bled extensively, and that he still has scars. he's a chameleon, and i wouldn't immediately trust anything he says

Lacey Jones

Btw guys, Mohammed Sinwar was the brother of Yahya. He took command after Yahyas death and then was also killed. Not sure why Mike singled him out though.

Victoria Borges

I don't think Tucker is displaying his own moral clarity-- I think he's reflecting the morals of an audience he's trying to appeal to. Which isn't nothing, and we should all be glad *someone* is doing this work, but I do believe he's doing it to elevate himself. He's presented as a conservative-ish neoliberal before (in his pre-Fox News era), then a thinking man's Bill O'Reilly, then an outright christofascist white supremacist (never forget he was fired from Fox for being too racist!), then a Manosphere incel health grifter, and now... he's an internationalist humanitarian? Also, Tucker has been fine in the past with the government killing children. If it's trans kids, or migrant kids, or just female kids, he doesn't care. Maybe it's different when there's video footage, but I just don't believe him. It does make me optimistic about his audience, though. I think a lot of them care.

I do hand it to Tucker. By no means do I trust him, by no means do I agree with him on anything else but all of the points the show made are so valid. Bottom line is, regardless of if he’s grifting or not - he IS doing actual journalism and he is the only person platforming Palestinians and their advocates, and the ONLY one challening figures like Huckabee. So like Daniel says, that’s literally “having to hand it” to him! Think of the scope of his audience - who else can reach so many potential new ears?

Nick Fredman

I now sorta half hand it to Tucker, as his interventions are contradictory: good that he exposes tensions on the right and maybe helps weaken the elite consensus for unbridled military aid and political support etc; bad in that the way he does that reinforces (white, Christian) nationalism, ie can reinforce anti-immigrant and generally hard right and conspiracist opinions. I see that in the way the few peeps in my local solidarity group who sometimes share his stuff also share some pretty dodgy if not openly antisemitic stuff about secret conspiracies controlling the US or Australia (where I’m from).

LMC

I saw a clip of AJ Edelman's brother doing a set at the Cellar (I think) like 4 or 5 years ago making the "Schul Runnings" joke. Hate to give credit for that decent-yet-clueless pun...

Victoria Borges

Also not to pick on Daniel here but he keeps bringing up the "deplorables" line and I don't think he's remembering it correctly. What Hilary actually said was that Trump's base was made of A) the "basket of deplorables" (nazis, rapists, those types) and B) normal working class whites with reasonable concerns. She was specifically trying to give the latter some grace. Right wingers are always claiming that the Dems have some unique disdain for rural white people and it's just not true. I'm not saying Hilary and the rest of her elitist ilk actually care about the working class at all, but the idea that they hate stereotypical republican voters more than the actual minorities of their own base is right wing misinformation.

For whatever reason, people in the US are very sensitive to innuendos, “dog whistles,” problematic speech… many people are much more comfortable criticizing someone like Carlson for problematic language than they are condemning or stopping the actual mass slaughter of innocent people. I guess the idea is that prejudice can lead to actual violence, and thus should be policed? But what about a situation where there’s already violent, genocidal racism performed on a mass scale? I don’t like a lot of the things these conservatives say, but I have a hard time believing their speech acts are anywhere near as destructive as the actions of the Israelis. We had months of media hand-wringing about “Jewish safety “ while civilians were being killed by the thousands. I have no problem accepting conservatives on the anti genocide caravan if it helps to end it.

Scott Grabel

This information about Finkelstein is jarring. Only half of the 6 million Jewish victims died in camps, so does he really think the rest don’t count? Or we are differentiating who is a survivor based on which Nazi prison they survived?

Bel Reid

Moral clarity to me has always been more that no matter the situation you continue to stick to principles that you hold true, essentially integrity.

Bel Reid

Yep, broken bigot clock can be right twice a day but don't listen to him the other 22 hrs and always maintain healthy scepticism.

Nicholas Storch

The demon thing is the least worrying thing about Carlson. Look at his interactions with Holocaust/WW2 revisionists. Still, I agree with the general consensus that the Genocide in Gaza and Zionist takeover of North America is real and addressing it head on like Carlson is absolutely necessary. There is no turning back

Nicholas Storch

I totally agree, in fact now I need to go listen because if he said this it is unforgivable. But I don't want to judge second hand! Many Palestinians (I am not one) feel that Finkelstein treats them with contempt and talks over them, so he's not perfect regardless

Ray

i was just pointing to the lowest hanging fruit of: this guy is a liar. and as someone who long ago was sucked into right wing bullshit bc i heard an individual (seemingly, to my young uninformed ass mind) speak truth to right wing power about the iraq war... i began to take other elements presented as on the level. we seem to love right wingers who come to our side on things (see the bullwark). so really what i'm hoping to say is to offer caution with tucker (et al), he has a way of sounding reasonable and one should not take that as a blanket assessment of him. as you've pointed out he's worse

T

I mean, Tucker has no care about the deaths of other brown people, trans people, women, et cetera. I find it difficult to "hand it to him", given the incredible harm he has perpetrated.

Leanne

hey team, any chance you can add albums from what’s the spin as a list to ep description for those not on Spotify
