Omg "Dhal Gadot" totally got me! 🤣🤣🤣

Scott Grabel

Just saw Mamdani get asked about a United Ireland 🇮🇪 and be said be hasn’t thought much about it. Really? The guy whose family is from an Asian former British colony 🇮🇳 who was born in an African former British colony 🇺🇬 and who was raised in a former American British colony 🇺🇸 has never thought about it? Like Daniel said, who is he performing for?

Sreekishen Nair

And personally, ** just for the record 😁 **, I really enjoy 'What's The Spin" ❤️ Keep on spinnin' Daniel 🙂

Evan Pitkin

I think the spin is so good it should be separated from the rest of the show and set on a more expensive tier for true fans.

Sreekishen Nair

I really liked Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's version of Dune, but more so because (as a fan of Herbert's books and short stories) I like that production better than the ones by Lynch and the Scyfy channel. I'm not familiar with much of young Timée's work otherwise. Although last year he visited the campus i work at and, to say the least, caused quite a stir - like The Beatles or some shit.

Sreekishen Nair

To illustrate the words of an author from Gaza, especially in collaboration with Susan Abulhawa is an absolute honor. Dammit Zoran🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾

Sreekishen Nair

Susan's response left me thunderstruck ❤️✊🏾❤️✊🏾❤️✊🏾❤️

Sreekishen Nair

How long before Olivia Reingold starts going through people's trash? Or has she already?

ahhh_heyyyooorrr

"What's the Spin has to go now. It's planet needs them"

Hugh Jazz

When you sang the first line from the “One” from A Chorus Line, I thought you were about to go “One… oh, one // the only way is one..” from Creed’s “One”

Sreekishen Nair

Great discussion!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the video version ❤️ The guests are always wonderful, but you guys are just fantastic all alone like Rita Coolidge 🪟 🌄 🌅 🪟 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶

Mikoula 4 Peace

I suppose he could have mumbled something about self-determination and the people’s right to decide…

Jacob King

Worth hanging around for that last clip. Yikes.

Albamar Sanchez

I love The Spin (Yusef Latif?! ❤️) AND The Spoon, which could appear more often - like what to cook during the apocalypse. Susan Abulhawa's video made me order the rest of her work. Her Oxford debate is a must.

Albamar Sanchez

Whoa! 🤯 "Anti-Jewishness" and "anti-semitism" and "anti-zionism". Mind educationally blown.

Jonathan Kadmon

The Chili Peppers actually do an excellent cover of Love Roller Coaster which is featured on the soundtrack of Beavis and Butthead Do America. Their version of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground isn't bad either, though It obviously isn't Stevie so it's not going to be quite as good as the original, but they did a decent job holding their own. Unfortunately, I agree with Daniel the rest of their original stuff kind of sucks and I grew up with their stuff annoyingly over played on the radio. Used to be like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. So I was pleasantly surprised when I found those covers

Matt Katz-Bohen

Does anyone know which guest Daniel is referring to, that called Susan a "Nazi"?

Jerty98

Why not Aaron mate for a guest (again)

Scott Grabel

Daniel really hit on a point of contention with Zionists when he said antisemitism is over. For Zios, it is absolutely not over. Even for liberal, self claimed pro Palestinian Zionists, they would said the oppression of Jews is paused, and it is only paused thanks to Israel and Zionism itself. So what is the counter argument? I figure that the world is safer for Jews because the world is generally a more tolerant place, and if anything is fueling continued anti-Jewish hate it is Israel itself.

Toshio42

Was Mamdani mad at his wife or something? What else could account for him capitulating, when he must know the kahanists won't thank him while they smell blood?

Trish R

“They fired 600 shots at the envelope” was EPIC, Daniel 😅😅😅

Trish R

At 1:10:35 ish Matt let slip the name “Ben” 🤔

Scott Grabel

It’s the song and dance he feels he has to play in order to painlessly live and work in these elite New York spaces.

Nicholas Storch

I want to say Ben Lorber with "Jewish Currents", if that is incorrect I apologize!

Shazia Ahmad

The Neo-Nazi charge against Susan just floored me. I literally thought I’d dreamt that tweet and then others reposted screenshots.

Carmen Wolf

Sometimes I prefer the Matt & Daniel solo shows so I don’t have to stress about them interrupting the guest! 😂

Carmen Wolf

Yup. Raf has some explaining to do.

Carmen Wolf

Nirvanna, The Band, etc. (definitely watch it - totally wild and weird and fun) features the fabulous Canadian Matt Johnson, who directed a movie about the early days of Anthony Bourdain’s career. My husband (Michael Bauman) shot it. I think it will be released later this spring.

Nicholas Storch

Franklin Foer acknowledged that there was a Golden Age of Jews in which (in North America) Jews and the US thrived together, anti-semitism existed but didn't hinder Jewish striving for their goals, and meeting and exceeding them. The point at which that Golden Age ended seems to be the Gaza genocide. Foer denies the genocide so his answer isn't so clear.

John W

She is people's trash (I know. Not sure it makes sense either)

Shazia Ahmad

Great episode, gents! You said so eloquently and perfectly what I thought about over the weekend, and especially after I watched Susan Abulhawa’s searing response. Thank you so much.

linden.lime

Guys “spunk tank” was right there

T

I assume it's because she's made some groyper-style comments including "the goyim are noticing" and holocaust denial. Potentially also her TERF posts as well.

Nicholas Storch

"TERF" needs to be reanalyzed in the case of a Palestinian Women who is witness to the violence against Palestinian Women currently in the genocide and is fiercely protective against the Western and Israeli pink-washing pro-Genocide consensus. If Susan had put down a Palestinian Trans experience, that might be different.

Nicholas Storch

I think your accusations are offensive crap but "Terf" is a bit more reasonable, but I still think the Palestinian experience vs Western Trans experience is not as clear cut as they would be in the context of, for example the UK.

Shazia Ahmad

I know plenty of people retweeting Tucker Carlson whom I would not term white nationalists (even though carlson clearly is). I think calling a Palestinian woman who has been a) banned from going to Palestine by the people eliminating her people, and b) has been forced to witness the genocide of her people for three years (or really 78, if we are going back to the beginning) a neo-Nazi is beyond the pale. I agree with Matt and Daniel in this episode.

Yy

Honestly I don’t expect a middle-aged woman from a socially conservative cultural background to hold the “correct” opinion on every hot-button issue. Same with Norman F., who I presume after a lifetime of backstabbing and blacklisting has grown to be wary of respectability politics and the pressure to toe the line at all cost, both of which are rampant in academia. Plus he always strikes me as a stubborn person who’s perhaps not the most open-minded. I suspect Susan might have similar tendencies (despite her past beef with Norman)

Riaz Abdulla

Thank you Daniel for the Daal Gadot mention. You made this Desi proud

B. Getz

The righteous anger, defiance, & unrepentant RAGE has returned. Give Thanks. "Don’t matter who did what to who at this point. Fact is, we went to war, and now there ain’t no going back. I mean, s***, it’s what war is, you know? Once you in it, you in it. If it’s a lie, then we fight on that lie. But we gotta fight."

Shazia Ahmad

Interestingly enough, they were both supposed to be at the Oxford Union debate, speaking for Palestine. Professor Finklestein was attending to debate Benny Morris, who dropped out and was replaced that clownish, Borat-like son of H*m*s loser. So the professor bowed out as well.

Adam House

You guys should bring Susan on the podcast! She sounds very well spoken.

ahhh_heyyyooorrr

His speechwriter nailed his St. Patrick's Day monologue tbf- shouting out James Connolly, Roger Casement and the Dunnes Stores workers who went on strike over South Africa are always welcome

Guys_Frenchy’s_Official

Great points. It’s funny, though I see the D’s as marginally better than the R’s, I find the average big L “Liberal” has just as many repulsive viewpoints as your average conservative… I think this is where the “scratch a liberal” thing comes from.

Guys_Frenchy’s_Official

PS. The tone policing thing talked about here before the break is exactly what Mark Fisher was addressing in his vampire castle essay

Jonathan Kadmon

I distrust Mark Fisher. I've never heard anyone cite "Capitalist Realism" and follow with a good point. Usually it was something doomerist and counterrevolutionary.

Guys_Frenchy’s_Official

The vampire castle thing is different, but I hear you about Fisher. My issue with “capitalist realism” is that it doesn’t seem any different from bourgeois ideology generally (or reification or plenty of other Marxian terms) so I don’t understand why people constantly allude to it… but I get what he means, and it seems like a useful concept.

Nick Fredman

My comment seems to be gone. You don’t like (mild and thoughtful) criticism?

Rob and Margo

Holy shit I’m so jazzed. Pre emptivr Mazel tov to Michael and Matt
