Charlene & Kathleen - Concept Art to Final Art (Patreon)

Hi everyone, happy Women Wednesday (and during Pride, no less)! Today I (Arimia) will talk about the design process for 2 of the side characters in My VTuber Rival is Actually Cute?!

Charlene is your manager and close friend who's helped you through your streaming career. We wanted to give her a very casual and friendly look, something simpler than everyone else. She's not a streamer but she's here to support the people she cares about.

A sweater kind of jacket was pitched, something she could throw on quickly (conventions can be so cold...!). We ended up going with the middle design, giving her a loose ponytail.

The shirt ended up being changed more to purple to match her girlfriend's design and have her catch phrase on it.

Who's her girlfriend, you might ask...?

Kathleen is another VTuber known for her off the cuff remarks and bombastic attitude. Despite that, for her IRL design we wanted something more sophisticated and mature.

We went with the last design here and knew purple was a must.

We ended up going with a slightly more saturated version of the 1st color scheme.
