May '26 Newsletter: Familiar series finale, the rest of the year, and what's coming next (Patreon)
Content
Hi.
This is a free and public post so everyone can tune in and see the big big news. So I'll just get to it:
As of April 28, 2026, the Familiar series finale pages have been completed.
There's still some work yet to be done on it. Part 1 is back from Dyana, my production assistant, and is about 99% complete (text bubbles and all). Parts 2 and 3 are still with her for production with a rolling delivery, after which I'm doing text balloons and final revisions. Script is about 95% there.
But the art is done and the page sequences are final (barring anything world-ending coming up during beta-reading). The final page counts are:
Part 1: 30 pages, publishes May 2026
Part 2: 31 pages, publishes July 2026
Part 3: 33 pages, publishes September 2026
For a total of 94 pages... plus there's going to be some special end matter. All three parts will be published here on Patreon, included in the Familiar Archive (which you can buy one time as a product), and will also be published on the Duck for free (along with the rest of the comic) (feel like I have to say this constantly, yes, FAMILIAR IS FREE TO READ! ALL OF IT!!! You just have to make a little account to get past the age gate!)
Summer outlook here on Patreon
Through the summer I will be attempting to catch up on side projects (like the German translation of Familiar and Soiree), as well as getting the first couple chapters of my next comic series ready to go (more on that in a second).
I'll be posting sneak peeks and the usual content (like Author's Commentaries) as usual through the summer.
Later in the summer, I will also be re-organizing the Patreon tiers to match the content I'm producing. The perks are going to be more or less the same, but they're not going to be restricted to Familiar, since I won't always be working on Familiar-themed things. Basically I'm just going to expand the perks to cover all my comic work, not just Familiar.
TWO FAMILIAR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Will we ever see more Familiar comics?
I don't have any comics for Familiar scheduled, but I do have a lot of ideas left for filler chapters, specials, one-pages, illustrations, etc. Just because Familiar is ending doesn't mean you'll never see Jack, Diana, Rosey, or Freddi again.
Q: Are there any plans for a print edition of Familiar?
I don't want to say too much about this, because the last time I had an actual contract deal it was ended by the publishers in the most unprofessional way and I hated every part about it, especially the part where I had to tell everyone what happened. But at risk of jinxing it, I guess, yes: I've received a new offer and I'm working on it. It is probably not going to be this year, but I will be sure to update everyone as soon as I have real and concrete information to share.
What's coming next from your pal, Soushiyo
A new comic series is in development! It's called Unoriginal Characters and it's about five retail employees who work in the same midwestern strip mall... who (unbeknownst to them but knownst to us) are all wildly famous adult content creators online.
Like Familiar, UNOC is a slice-of-life series about how sexual and kink identities hold clues and keys to unlocking buried potential in day-to-day life. Tonally, it's something like Clue meets Clerks, but with some not-so-subtle commentary on the challenges of working in the adult industry.
Yes, it's explicit. It's erotic. It's diverse. It's got jokes. The characters have rivalries, crushes, and friendships IRL -- and completely different dynamics after hours online. What happens when their worlds start to merge? I GUESS READ AND FIND OUT
(no really please read it and find out).
The Unoriginal Characters pilot, WHEN THE CLOCK STRIKES, will begin production in May and, all going well, I'll have enough buffer to start publishing it in early 2027 when I come back from break.
In the meantime, I still hope to drop one other comic after the Familiar finale and before the end of the year.
And that comic is Soiree. It's like half done already so all I have to do is... finish it. Just a little one-off to take the sting off Familiar ending.
As well, I would ideally like to get a lot more (all??) of the Familiar German translation laid out and uploaded.
Okay. That's it for now.
More soon when I begin re-arranging Patreon. Until then.
