I think for the blocking conversation the context here is that Kuroo is giving tidbits for what works for Nekoma. They're less about the kill blocks (although Kuroo definitely can do it) and more about the discipline about making sure they 100% take up the space they're supposed to in order for their floor defense to work properly. Nekoma is a really good defensive team and work well with their block to make sure they can connect the ball. It doesn't work for them if there's a high probability that the ball can get through the space that the block is supposed to take up. And also skill issue - not all of Nekoma is on the level of Kuroo that might be able to stuff block 1-on-1 (especially the newbie Lev who just needs to be make sure he isn't a gaping hole in their wall before he can advance into more skilled techniques).

When I started playing I spent so much time playing keg volleyball. But someone must have seen something in me and invited me to go play where he plays. I went and ended up playing against guys who played nationals every year. It was humiliating. I was picked on, switched out constantly and was clearly the worse player in the gym. But I kept coming back week after week. Eventually, I was no longer the weakest player in the gym. And I will forever thank the guy who invited me - I only wish I knew about it sooner.
