So the numbers above their head is some sort of shinigami numerical system that can only be deciphered by shinigamis (as well as those with shinigami eyes). So if you saw 2036 etc it doesnt have any indication of how long someone has left to live.

Shinigami are theoretically immortal, so 60 years is plenty of time, since that they just have to kill one person in their ~20's/30's to get another 60 or so. (and they can see how much they'd get so they know explicitly how much lifespan they'll gain). Ryuk said as far as he knew the only way a shinigami could die is if they got so lazy and apathetic they stopped writing names entirely. Most shinigami due to writing very few names probably only have around 60-100 years of lifespan at any given time.

About Misa's lifespan: that number is not the year in human understanding. At the very beginning when Ryuk told Light about the eyes deal, Ryuk said something like: 'I can see your lifespan, and I know how to easily transfer to human's number, but of course I won't tell you.' That means the lifespan Shinigami sees needs to be transferred. Btw, the number floating above Misa is 1542306, not 2036, so definitely has nothing to do with the year.

The writer created a formula for the lifespans above everyone's head that only they could solve.....but they forgot the formula. So the numbers quite literally mean nothing if we're trying to deciher what they mean. 😵
