If you missed our livestream, be sure to check out the replay, but Adam and I created a team (with some member help, of course) that we think could beat Shiratorizawa.

How many times out of ten do you think this team will win?

Things to Consider:

fatigue is not a factor in consecutive matches (match 1 to match 2 to match 3, etc.)

we created the team including personality/team dynamics

the teams are able to use the information they have gathered during previous matchups to determine strategy, adjustments, etc.

The team:

Setter- Oikawa

Opposite- Bokuto

Outsides- Iwaizumi and Nakashima

Middles- Kuroo and Aone

Libero- Yaku

Pinch server- Yamaguchi

Coach- Ukai Junior

Love it. Only thing I’d change is keeping Nishinoya as the libero but i’ll have to watch the recording to see all the reasonings. Yaku is really, really good but I like what nishinoya brings to the offense from knowing how to set

Sarah

The libero role was the biggest dicussion, I would say. Setting was talked about too.

JujuChonk

I can't believe i missed the stream! Thanks for the alert phone.... 😭 I'm honestly glad that so many teams are formed without players from Karasuno. It shows how well the series is written.

Immortal812sand

Oikawa with bokuto is insane combo. Shiratorizawa cant handle that offense. And you got the best blockers.

Girish

I couldn't join the stream 😭. The team feels very strong . I am very curious about Bokuto vs tendo

SDCWW171

(NOTE: I have not watched the VOD yet.) The biggest flaw I see in this team is Bokuto without Akaashi to keep him on course and not going into a game-losing mood swing. In the show they keep saying "Oikawa can make the team hes with play at their best" but being able to deal with the 37+ number of Bokuto's weaknesses seems like something that needs ALOT of time for the setter to fully grasp. Its also something the entire team of Fukorodani would work to coddle his mood swings and work with it, which I feel like Yaku and Iwaizumi would not be that willing to do(they'd rather react aggressively to his bs). If the assumption is they can easily adapt to Bokuto, I'd say around ~8/10. If they can't, it would wildly vary anywhere from 3-7/10 likely. I'd potentially consider someone like Mad Dog who fills Bokutos roll for very sharp angle shots(less so with straights), and who's temperamental attitude is within Oikawa's understanding/control. I feel like he'd give them a more consistent ~6/10.

Danny

Someone mentioned this in the Livestream but I think with Kuroo, Yaku and Oikawa managing Bokuto he will be fine. Akashi can just email them his list of weaknesses. But Kuroo and Yaku should already be well aware of how bokuto works since they play and practice with each other so much.

Danny

People also underestimate bokuto's competitive spirit and urge to show off. I think playing against ushiwaka would definitely light a fire in him and minimize his weaknesses a bit.

Talosig23

Email? Will it fit in one email?

Angus

Went for 8/10. Shiratorizawa is a super offensive team and all their wing-spikers are great hitters. On the flip side, I don't think they're particularly defensively besides Reon, who's decent at receiving. Also, when you have erratic Tendō in front of you it makes it even more difficult.

Sylvia ZX

I voted for 7/10 Just wanted to say that it’s Kuroo’s birthday tomorrow, 11/17 Happy Birthday to Sarah’s second favourite boy 😜🎂

Shugoshin

Hm tough. I went 8/10 because that is a ridiculous team, but I had to account for random play of other team. Nobody can be perfect.

Ayan

i think concerns about bokuto are slightly overblown. without getting into spoiler territory, akaashi is in the grade below him which means it's not like bokuto has never played volleyball without him. also kuroo and yaku know him personally for years at this point so they could probably handle him. worst case scenario - have akaashi on the bench or something lol overall though i think these teams are pretty evenly matched with a slight edge for shiratorizawa, so i went 4/10. i just think trying to contain the likes of shiratorizawa's spikers would take longer than the other way around.

Sharles Davis Kendy

I will also add that Oikawa is famous for being able to handle any and all spikers no matter what. It's almost his super power. And while I think Bokuto is different from any spiker he's ever dealt with and would definitely be a challenge, with help from Kuroo, he should be able to do at least a fascimile of what Akaashi does.

Chawamushi

i picked 6! I think it is slightly stronger than current shiratorizawa, but not that much🌝

Quan Nguyen

I chose 4/10 because Ushijima is just that good.

Maurice Chai

Was bouncing between 6 and 7, but picked 7 in the end! It's a very strong team, and Bokuto is still top 5 as a hitter. The one decision I'd change is I'd keep Bokuto at left side, just because he is the best hitter of the lot and one of his really strong skills is being able to hit that cut shot. I'm not sure whether it'd be different hitting that same shot from the right side, and if they only had a week or so to prepare, whether he could make that adjustment comfortably both from a physical and mental aspect.

Terry Kusunoki-Martin

You said during the end of the stream that you paused One Piece due to the slow start. I promise that it is a show where the juice is worth the squeeze. It's one of the best epics written in modern times, hands down

ElAyVee

Hmm, I have yet to watch the stream, so I will do something interesting instead. I will give my blind feeback, then comeback and add my thoughts after watching it. First thing that I notice in this lineup is both Oikawa and Iwazumi... while I would always pick them for an all-star team as a Shiratorizawa specific counter, picking the guys who managed to keep losing to them for at least 4 years in a row is a curious choice. Especially if we are saying team dynamics do count. I fear for the mental game of Oikawa in particular and whatever he might have developed a mental block. Oikawa is normally calm and collected but we see him panic a bit in a flashback and his internal tourmoil when it comes to Kageyama and Ushijima. While Kageyama is normally less composed, he had no such issues with Ushijima and Shiratorizawa, and was in fact one of the most composed members since the beginning of the match (Which Ukai notices) I really like the other picks however, especially Nakashima. The middle is an obvious improvement but with the loss of Hinata it losses the offensive speed that blunted Kendo's effectiveness, without that I fear Kendo will just start roofing people left and right. Both chosen middles have good offensive power, but the lack of relative speed is an issue, we know how fast Kendo is. Which is why I like how offensive the outside really is, despite their great passing skills. Nakashima especially and his ability to just hit angles off the block is a brilliant choice, he will hopefuoy open up the block while hopefully frustrating Kendo. Iwazumi while not playing exactly the same style as Nakashima has overall the same strenght, however, again, I worry for his "history" with Shiratorizawa, but less so than I would with Oikawa. We know his mental game is strong, so I am not as worried, and overall I can't really think of somebody else that would be better in that position, at this time. Without including the OVA and S4. No comments for the Libero choice, it's solid. I do have some comments for the pinch server however, which is... Add more! At least in Haikyu there does not seem to be a limit on how many there are. Add Kageyama (if Oikawa is playing) and Asahi there and just start pummeling Shiratorizawa, this also allow you to have them "officially" in the lineup to allow for more "permament changes" if anything goes wrong. Yamaguchi also included of course, he is a grest picks, these are "additions" not "replacements". Overall I would swap out Oikawa for Kageyama. As for chances, Shiratorizawa is so strong that any 8/10 or so beatdown seems far fetched to me. Even with the best lineup, I think chances are going to be closer to 50/50, even with a perfect lineup. At the end I voted for a 4/10 for this current lineup. Will be back later after watching the video.

ElAyVee

Ok, after watching the livestream, I understand the Oikawa pick, I am still skeptical personally. Yes Boruto can have his mental meltdown, but he is simply needed. I do think Kuro and Yaku would be able to handle him. They're friends and have known each others for a long time. Also Bokuto gets really fired up when playing against strong opponents. Also, I feel like Kendo will mess with Oikawa, not the other way around, as he has done for 3 years now. Sorry, I just feel that strongly about him against Shiratorizawa :') I personally still pick Kageyama, that's the only change in lineup I would have. And I confirm having more than 1 sub server, especially Asahi. Strong serve and if for some reason we are unable to contain a Bokuto meltdown, he is an ok emergency replacement.

Zirui Huang

Haven’t checked the live stream yet so I don’t know if it has already been discussed: I’d pick Bokuto and Iwazumi as outsides and Kageyama as the opposite. Kageyama is a bit all rounder and also has great spin serves. Most importantly, he can bring many play options when you have two great setters on the court. Of course more work needs to be done on the team dynamics🤣. I’d say with six intensive jump servers (plus yamaguchi with the jump float) + consistent blocks & solid defence + two setters who can both hit with more attack options, 7 out of 10 this team can win if more run-in time is given!

Karen Summer

Nothing to do with this video specifically but who else misses Gen Z Adam? One of the Haikyuu reactions had it and it TOTALLY ROCKED!!!!!

Mans Faye

Well, maybe a database access key

Mans Faye

Honestly, I would just suggest they wait for the new "the one piece" adaptation by wit studio and netflix. Regardless of the HUGE return from One Piece regarding the narrative, world, characters, themes, etc... the investment also is huge it's a whole lot of time for a story that could be much more condensed (in the anime. The pacing of the manga is great). Since the new adaptation aims at fixing this main pacing issue I would just suggest for them to wait for that

steve crandall

I went with 6 - I’d probably go 7 with Nishinoya. Then again all-star teams suddenly brought together can be a disaster. Was there an assumption they’d be well-practiced and integrated as a team before hand?

Ashley hui

Same. it’s crazy how we are introduced to him so early in the series but I still feel like he is stronger than a lot of characters in later arcs!

Ashley hui

Bokuto is SUPER strong considering he have a full list of weaknesses but still managed to be top 5 in the country 🤣🤣🤣🤣

siopao

Aww bummed that I missed it. Will it be available for streaming on YouTube later?

siopao

Nvm! Found it in a previous patreon post 😅

suckishima (kim)

Aah super bummed I missed this one live, my fingers would have been FLYING to type out my thoughts on a few of this picks 😆 But the chat said a lot of what I was thinking too so I don't have a too much to add. Gonna steal Sarah's line about Kuroo and apply it to Tsukishima, and saaaay, not just because I'm obsessed with him, but I think Tsukki would really make a difference on this team in this situation. But, not to replace Kuroo (I fully agree with Sarah that Kuroo, as Tsukishima's mentor/teacher is a better and more seasoned blocker), but to replace Aone. Simply because of, like what the chat was saying too, for his strategy. I'm just imagining Tsukki playing Shiratorizawa again but with a real MB instead of Hinata to keep up his total defense strategy when he's in the back/off court, they'd not just be funneling all of Ushijima's balls, but Goshiki and Leon's too? Ooo and having that other MB be Kuroo who is just a superier Tsukishima in skill?? Idk that feels more formidable to me than Aone, who no doubt is amazing, but I just think Tsukki's mind is a better match up for Shiratorizawa's unwavering formula. And then to get to actually answering the poll, I'm honestly kind of surprised how high everyone is ranking this team! They're solid, don't get me wrong (I voted for 4 times out of 10, I think they're close to being evenly matched—and I agree with Sarah and Adam that Karasuno probably won their 1 out of 10), but I just can't help but think that Shiratorizawa is a consistent National level team, and other than Bokuto, none of those other players have ever been to Nationals. AND, Bokuto is a top 5 ace, whereas Ushijima is solidly top 3. But I do think they'd be able to get a few wins. Interesting too just to think about that, as unlikely as it was, Karasuno DID win against Shiratorizawa this time, and yet, only one of their players made this team 😆 I'm also on the fence about whether or not Oikawa would be just pumped and motivated to take down Ushijima, or if he'd let his anger get in the way too much and end up making some mistakes/try to win too much on his own rather than make the best decisions for the team—I think Oikawa is the setter that gets the best out of his hitters and is the least selfish setter in the series, /except/ when it comes to Ushijima. Imo that would be his biggest weakness in that regard and honestly it would be really interesting to see how it would play out for them at this point in time, now that Oikawa's just started really embracing the whole "the stronger 6 is the stronger 6" mentality. Side note, I loved that comment about Akaashi emailing Oikawa the list of Bokuto's weaknesses for him to study, not only is that hilarious, I DO think that would work! With or without the specific information I think Oikawa would catch on to Bokuto's idiosyncrasies pretty quickly and come up with ways to keep him in top shape, and I don't think Bokuto's emotions would be too much of an issue. Especially as the team continues to play together through the 10 matches. I love whenever you guys do these hypotheticals, or drafts etc, it's so much fun to think about all of the different matchups and aah I wish we could really see them all play! Can't wait to hear both of your thoughts on the poll as well!!

AnNaNN

7 because I'm biased, but I really think they have better chances

Adam Schulz

There is a lot to get into here and some good points. I think Tsuki and Aone would both be good choices. But with Kurro being the “superior” Tsuji I think having Aone as the other middle gives you a different element. He is not the center of the to wall for nothing. I feel like he would wear down the Shiratorizawa hitters more over a 10 game series. I personally think Oikawa would rise to that he occasion given the team members around him

Adam Schulz

Hahaha I have to be in the mood and or hopped up on caffeine

suckishima (kim)

All fair points! Definitely agree about Aone bringing a different element compared to a Kuroo/Tsukki combo and I would love to see any version of the Iron Wall come up against Shiratorizawa. It is interesting too to think about this 10 match format, and how the persistent reads of both Aone and Kuroo /would/ wear Shiratorizawa down, and whether or not that could cause Washijou to start considering strategies other than his tried and true "simple is best" formula. It definitely would push the "battle of concepts" idea!

Karen Summer

Well that's that you espresso. A Haikyuu relevant question now; which Haikyuu team do you think most accurately reflects your high school team and which would you want to play for as a high schooler?
