L's plan for Light and Misa in the car... 😳 I'm a little surprised that Inspector Yagami went for it, but I have serious respect that he committed to the mission and pulled it off. Yikes!!

The pacing definitely takes a sharp turn in this arc. I'd argue that the next few episodes shines a light on the other characters in the task force (like Matsuda) whilst slowly building the plot. However, the pay-off for the build-up is incredible, so hold on a little longer! Death Note's the kind of show that rewards patience, which is something I also struggled with in these episodes.

L handcuffs himself to Light *Sitcom music starts playing* On a serious note, I'm with Adam on the strenght of success and power as means to corrupt someone out of their morals; think of people who get political favour, win the lottery or find quick fame, they tend to shift personalities and wipe their morals. Light was never a normal teen, he was a top beloved student that excelled at everything including popularity, he saw himself as upstanding and an example of a great human. The moment he gets the Death Note, those things stop being a priority, "deliverying justice" is more important, then doing anything within grasp to avoid being caught is justified since he is above the rest. The moment he resigned the DN, all that power trip and justifications were erased and he reverted back to his vision as a righteous person. Now, the interesting question is the following, do you think this version of Light is a murderer? Is he the worst of the worst and deserves hell? Or is the blame to be casted on "Kira" and Light is now a reformed man? You can ask that to different people and while they will fall into inoccent or guilty, the justifications on why will vary WILDLY

Ok, I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who struggled. I noticed that it picked up a bit again in episode 18 so I will stick with it!

That's what I was thinking! I was asking Adam if he thinks that the essence of Light is Kira or if he is a "good" person. It's such a trip to think about. He's clearly capable of doing some terrible things, but is he a bad person??
