My biggest takeaway from this episode is that Japanese anime/manga creators give the absolute worst "Western names" to characters. I've been thinking it for a while now with various other shows, but Wedy and Aiber?! Those might be the worst ones yet 😆

I've seen on ocations hate towards calling him "just hot headed" or "selfish" but I have nothing but respect for the man. Imagine having a family to take care of and not seeing them often for a very long time just to pursue a hopeless case that seems to go nowhere, then your career/livelihood gets threatened and then it's revealed to you that your "leader" in this investigation is just testing you after all your sacrifice. Some people get too blindsighted by L's intellect and fail to see how cruel he can be, Aizawa was right in quitting.

Apparently the mangaka deliberately used fake/not real names for characters so readers wouldn't see their actual name in the death note for superstitious reasons. Even the Japanese characters have names where the Kanji spelling is off from what would normally be the case for their names. There are some manga panels with WILD random names like "Prosciutto Salame".
