Why didn't Yurio's grandpa show up?? That made me really sad for him, even though he eventually turned it into rage lol.

I cannot believe that Victor asked Yakov to coach Yuri for the free skate. I know Yuri has his program and everything and knows what to do, but wouldn't that be even more of a distraction, given how Yakov wants him to lose?

I think because Yuri experienced the heartbreak of being away when his own dog died (first episode, when he was at last year's Grand Prix), that probably played into his insistence on Victor immediately going back to Japan. Still shocked me when Victor asked Yakov to take over for that day for him though XD

The voice of JJ is same voice of Atsumu Miya (blond twin) in Haikyuu. Couple of Haikyuu voices in YOI.

Ashley hui

Their reaction to JJ LMAO

I had seen some articles that said Yuri bears resemblance to the Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu and Yurio resembled the Russian skater Yulia Lipnitskaya. There's still a discourse on whether the characters were actually based on these skaters. It would be awesome if you guys could react to their Olympic programs! They're absolutely mesmerizing to watch!

The way I GASPED when Victor approached Yakov with his request… the AUDACITY omg. I know Yakov has been coaching him since Victor was a literal toddler so their relationship is probably as complicated as it is long (and professional aspects aside, probably that is why Yakov is still so salty over Victor leaving so suddenly to ~play coach~ and NOT discussing anything with him beforehand.) But to ask his ex-coach to be his stand-in for a rival competitor on the final leg of the Grand Prix qualifiers when Yakov should be focusing on his own skater… IN MOSCOW of all places… wow Victor got balls the size of the sun. Or maybe he was panicking too much and defaulted to the decades long mindset that if he has a problem, Yakov will step up and help solve it as a coach (/father figure)… this is rough on all parties involved. Hang in there Makkachin!

I'm not a huge fan...

Sarah

Okay I'm glad someone shared my shock because yes, I felt all of these things!

The creator confirmed that Yurio’s apperance was inspired by Yulia’s Schindler’s List free skate program at the Sochi 2014 olympics, and she was inspired to write Yuri on Ice after Matsuki Tachida retired (she was a fan of his.) Personally, I think Yuuri’s skating is a homeage to Takahashi Daisuke - he was inconsistent with his jumps through most of his career, but his musicality was (and still is imo) unparalelled in the field. He always got insane PC scores (if it was deserved or not who knows, I’m not getting into Federation drama here) but when he was feeling his jumps as well, he was insanely good and so so beautiful to watch.

I think Yurio’s style is majestic and different from others l, also his jumps are higher Yuri is doing great😭😭so proud Btw figure skating world champion is about to start tomorrow I think!
