Omg, Adam's disappointment at having a break from the Karasuno match 😂

I was pretty excited to see my guy Kuroo again, though, ngl 😍🐈‍⬛

I agree that playing not to score doesn't really make sense. I haven't read the manga, so I'm wondering if there might be something lost in translation or less detail here. The only thing I can think of to rationalize it would be employing a general strategy that doesn't utilize their most potent offensive gameplans until later in the match. e.g. they have some combination plays that they're holding back on etc., and are instead running more generic high set plays to the outside when Kenma is front row to force him to jump on every set as a blocker, tipping and hitting to less risky spots on the court instead of the tight cuts or lines, maybe tipping more as you mentioned.

I never understood it as that they were purposefully avoiding scoring per se. I thought they were just not rushing into it and being very careful as to when and where they took their opportunities. Karasuno would be the type to try everything they can and throw in the kitchen sink to score. Or even Johzenji from s2 feels like that too. I think the problem might come from the way this guy explains it to his gf who doesn't really know anything about the sport. He specifically says they're avoiding scoring quickly and in the manga's eng. trans. he says they're avoiding scoring fast, if that makes any difference. As for Kenma, I think he really resented Yamamoto at first for looking down on him just because he didn't fit whatever image of a volleyball player Yamamoto had in his mind and he might be introverted, but that doesn't mean he's a pushover. I'm totally with Kenma on something though, I do hate to sweat and I do hate to be out of breath 🤣🤣🤣

The impression I get is that the method they used to share the information with the viewer was flawed. Note that we never see the coach tell them not to score, but to focus on tiring Kenma. We never see them talk about not scoring, they talk about Kenma having to move to get the pass instead of having the ball come right to them. I got the sense what they were doing was focusing more on spiking into annoying corners to pick up instead of hammering the ball. They're still trying to score, but they are focusing on a specific kind of attack that if it fails is most likely to make for a shit pass. Is it believable? Probably not honestly. But that's just how I always saw it.

Gotta love that Sassy Adam! 🤣 And now that he can remember Nekoma is the cat team, maybe he'll also remember that neko = cat in Japanese! Watch anime to learn Japanese! 😆

Sarah

But the backstory that goes along with it is so good!
