HOW DOES FRIEREN NEED TO TAKE A MAGE EXAM?!?! Give this elf an honorary doctorate!! I'm outraged.

I love how it's essentially dropped on us that a 1000 year old elf is considered young. Really makes one think on how old an elf life span truly is. Since it has already been essentially confirmed I don't mind typing it out. Though minor spoilers for ep 10, just as a precaution. In the fight against Lugner right at the end when he looked at Fern and said something like how did she do all of those minigun shots without exhausting her mana, it was hinting at the fact that when you suppress your mana you don't show a obvious loss of it. Not until you exhaust it to that limited amount. Plus when Frieren first began training her, it was a mirror to the small bits of training we saw of Frieren training with Flamme to build her mana reserves while suppressing them. So Fern has been doing this the entire show. I love how all these things tie into one another after a second watch. The little things where we were shown this detail so much earlier before it was relevant and had more proper context clues for us as an audience to pick up on.

cant wait for next week wooo

I'd like to think that Stark hadn't totally rebuilt his stamina since he was injured and that's why he passed out so quickly. And we're not sure how many days or weeks they've been traveling. Frieren looks like a little kid next to Kraft. Makes you wonder how old he really is since we know Frieren is over 1,000.

Sarah

Fair. You know I couldn't just let it go that Stark passed out 😂

Fern being raised by a priest, one that she admired and looked up to, has basically made her somewhat prudish but also very protective. Now that I think about it she's never really had much of a childhood either. She kind of took care of Heiter and now has being doing the same with Frieren in a sense. That and I guess she is also very protective of momma Frieren. On another note, I like Kraft's conversation with Frieren. At some point in life, after seeing everyone around die off, it would be hard to make it through life without some sense of faith IMHO. Especially for someone who is as long lived as an Elf.

Adam -- having trouble with H names Me -- "fair enough. That's Himmel and Heiter. Just two, right?" Also, Adam -- "Heisen"

yes, fern has been surpressing her mana. that’s what they were saying in the last episode (or episode 9, i can’t remember), when lugner called fern unfair and a disgrace to mages. the reason lugner wanted to run her down was because he looked at her mana and saw a tiny amount in comparison to his. but at the end when he re-examined her mana, he realized that what she was doing cost her way more mana than the feeble amount that she wasn’t concealing.

In regards to Adam's comments at the beginning of the video: Only one of the Seven Sages of Destruction has been killed - Aura. Whereas Qual (the creator of Zoltraak) was not a member of the Seven. Though his title is somewhat similar being the "Elder Sage of Corruption".

Yeah, the elves being wiped out reminds me of like old redwood trees being cut down. So much lived experience just, gone. They would really feel magical to be around. But then they are still somehow immature in a lot of ways to humans. Something about the immediacy of a human's lifespan makes us apt to be dynamic, and to evolve quickly, to set ourselves in ways, and to question those ways when we feel they aren't enabling our goals fast enough. Or maybe elves and humans are the same, and the elves evolve similarly over their lifespans, but to the human's perspective they would be stagnant. That reminds me of a sci-fi story where an alien race grew their brains larger and larger, allowing more complex and nuanced thought, but as the brains reached 10 meters, 50 meters, 100 meters, the thoughts became restricted by the speed of light. The scale amplified the time it took electricity to pass from one neuron to any other neuron, and to the outside observer they would never change their minds. Himmel seemed to understand the difference in his and Frieren's scales. He could only interact with her for a brief moment of her life, but he was able to change her trajectory. I am imagining that Himmel was bright star that appeared in Frieren's way that danced with her for a single moment, but changed her course indefinitely.

I am starting to think Adam wrote this show.

Someone already commented but yes, Fern has been suppressing her mana, we learn that in her fight with Lugner. I am sure Frieren helped her perfect it in the time they were together with Heiter, but Heiter taught her to do that as well first. Probably because of what he learned from Frieren when they went on their advanture. The clue to that is in episode two when she approaches Frieren near the rock cliff edge and Frieren says “I didn’t sense you coming…” and Fern responds “yes.. Heiter sometimes says I’m invisible…it’s a very good thing isn’t it?” …. We don’t understand the significance of it at the time, but after the Lugner and Aura fight, we understand, I’ve commented it before but once you guys finish the season you definitely should rewatch again on your own time. The rewatch of this anime is so rewarding…. You catch all the seeds they plant and can fully appreciate their bloom lol

I'm not too sure how it works in this show, but I've watched others shows were warriors have mana or something similar but they don't use it the same way mages and priest do. Instead they use it to fortify and strengthen their body and power output.

Sarah

Yeah I feel like Fern didn't really get much a chance to be a kid given everything she has been through 😢

Sarah

I thought he was saying it was disgraceful that she was concealing her mana at all and that she should be showing how much she has like the demons do. Is that basically what you just said?

Sarah

Don't let Adam see this comment

Sarah

It's like watching Haikyu!! again, I imagine, but in a different way 😊 Yeah I wasn't sure if Heiter had taught Fern how to conceal her mana, but looking back it all makes sense

I'M BEING SUPRESSED! I'M BEING SUPRESSED!
