This arc has been incredible, and this episode was 🔝 I loveeeeee the Frieren-Flamme backstory, and the Aura showdown gave me chills 🥶 I love seeing how different parts of Frieren's past are remembered and referenced by her in the present day. It's so well done!

So happy you love this arc!!! This is my faaaaave arc too!

Frieren has the energy of your badass grandma who is unbothered by any mayhem around her because she has lived through a war lol. From the moment you guys first said your were going to watch Frieren, I immediately thought of this episode and how much Sarah would like Frieren and Fern lol. 'Aura, kill yourself' is such a metal line.

The progression of seeing Adam go from pretty ambivalent on the show to now has been really satisfying. As far as mana pronunciation goes, if it's any consolation, in the English dub, everyone uses Sarah's version

Of the episodes so far, this one is definitely one of my favorites! As for the "man-a" vs "mon-a" pronunciation , I honestly switch back and forth between them. I'm not sure if either one is more right than the other.

Actually I always tought that Sarah's pronunciation of mana is the correct one, but I guess it's mostly because in my language there's only one possibile way to pronunce it. But if i'm not mistaken, english dubs also use that pronunciation. Anyway I absolutely love the explanation on why demons can't conceal their mana, it's so simple and yet it always make me think "wow they've tought about it very deeply". They could have simply said "you know, demons are unable to do it because of their skill and that's it" but instead the show goes deeper and defines a completely different society with it's own social norms that are in contrappositions with the ones that defines human society.

Adam's question about demon also something that i always been wondering. It seems to me its not social expectation but more like a nature instinct of them as a monster. Like lion have to exert their strength over their lion rival, they have no use to pretend weak, they hide to catch the prey.

I've always pronounced mana like how Adam does due to playing a lot of MTG growing up and everyone said it like that. But I think when it comes to fantasy books and shows, it's always been pronounced like how Sarah says it. This is my favorite arc in the series and my favorite episode. I just love how they portray demons. I feel that shows or books typically like to make someone evil because they did something that society would consider bad. This isn't necessarily wrong, but can be a little shallow and easy. I appreciate how much thought the creator put into why the demons need to be destroyed. It's so much more fascinating that the writer could have had Frieren easily overpower Aura in a fight but instead chose to introduce us to another element to the story that was much more compelling. Glad to see so much love for this arc.

This episode was SO FIRE. Frieren didn't need to flex so hard at the end, but she did and I ATE IT UP. My read is that Demons aren't incapable of suppressing their mana (even long term) but they might as well be. To forever suppress your mana is to live as one with suppressed mana: a life of destitute and shame. They would need an overwhelming motivation to do so, and since most if not all of them lack such a motivation, the idea doesn't even cross their mind until the moment of death like Lugner. It's a blindspot for them just as much as "it might be good not to eat so much carb" was for us before we knew more about the health sciences, i.e. a world view shaped by social conditioning. But my view is that they both don't do it because of the blindspot but also because social conditions don't let them even if they want to; it's two reasons and also just one.

This is a great episode. But, imo, it just gets better as the season progresses. Only more to look forward to...

Holy, I have never noticed that Frieren was wearing Flamme's earrings! Good catch, Sarah! I also say mana Sarah's way, but I'm Italian, so that's the only right way to pronounce it in my language.

Austen Bagiu

I dont know if you guys noticed but just before Aura mentioned her spell Auserlesse and after Himmel mentioned he has a feeling, a quick flash of the hero's adventures were shown. and the way Sarah's way of mana is how the asians and Adam is kind like the western pronunciations i guess?

Marshal Childress

Unfortunately this is peak anime. In my opinion that scene was a top 5 anime scene of all time from any anime. The whole show is worth the watch for that. Now let's finish the show!

Marshal Childress

Same, magic has me saying mana instead of mahnah. But I am sure the second way is technically correct.

Marshal Childress

One of the coldest lines in history, especially turning around and saying it.

The "Aura, kill yourself" scene is legendary💯 made waves online when the episode aired!
